Exclusive She-Hulk Print Revealed!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at 9:32 pm

Adam Hughes has been hard at work on the print exclusive to accompany the She-Hulk Comiquette, and she is now ready to make her pictorial debut! Feast your eyes on the good lookin’ finished artwork below that will come alongside the She-Hulk Comiquette Exclusive Version. Plus, since we know that AH! gives a lot of thought to the story within his artwork, we asked him to fill us in on this intriguing Jennifer Walters scene! Here’s what he revealed:

“I’ve loved She-Hulk ever since she first joined THE FANTASTIC FOUR, way back in the day. A much more enjoyable character when she’s being played for some laughs, I kinda wanted to design a statue that played up the funny aspects of Jennifer Walter’s emerald alter-ago. The idea that Jennifer is so on-the-go as a lawyer and an Avenger, that she might forget the most essential part of a super-heroine’s morning routine (putting her costume on under her regular street clothes)…. well, that’s comedy gold. It’s LOWBROW comedy gold… but it’s still gold.”

Thanks, AH! It certainly makes for an eye-catching print and comiquette! She-Hulk will begin reaching collectors everywhere this month, so keep an eye out for shipping updates if you’ve got a Pre-Order in or sign-up on the Wait List for either the Exclusive Version or Regular Version for your chance at any unclaimed pieces.[Exclusive She-Hulk Comiquette Wait List] [Regular Edition She-Hulk Comiquette Wait List]

Remembering Sheldon Dorf

Friday, November 6th, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Sideshow was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Sheldon Dorf, freelance artist, comic letterer and founder of Comic-Con. Age 76, Dorf died from kidney failure in a San Diego hospital on Tuesday, November 3rd, his brother Michael at his side.

Born in 1933, Sheldon Dorf spent his childhood in Detroit, Michigan, before studying at the Chicago Art Institute. He moved to New York in the 1960’s to begin his career as a freelance artist in the commercial design field, and from there, he became involved in the world of comic books and comic strips. Dorf worked with Chester Gould on his daily comic strip, Dick Tracy, and became acquainted with Jack Kirby and other pioneers of comic art.

In 1965, Dorf helped organize the ‘Detroit Triple Fan Fair’ event for comic fans, and when he moved to California in 1970, he partnered with Forrest Ackerman to stage the Golden State Comic Book Convention, a one-day event that would eventually become the San Diego Comic-Con International. This once-small event has since grown into the world’s largest pop-culture convention, hosting 125,000 fans each year. A testament to his impact, Dorf received the Inkpot Award at the 1975 Comic-Con, for his outstanding contributions to the world of comics, animation, science fiction and pop culture.

Sideshow Collectibles President and CEO, Greg Anzalone, says, “Sheldon Dorf was an inspired visionary. His concept of a convention to celebrate the comic arts, support artists of all stripes, and raise the profile of an often-misunderstood medium, was the potent seed that has grown into an amazingly rewarding annual gathering. There are many who remain in his debt, myself and Sideshow included.”

Sideshow Collectibles VP of 3D Design, Mat Falls stated, “I remember the very first Comic-Con I attended many years ago, when Sideshow was a mere acorn. I was thinking to myself, ‘I can’t wait for the day that we are able to participate in this extraordinary event.’ Some years later, we set up our first humble booth, and I stood there amongst my fantasy brethren and said, “Wow, we finally made it here. Too bad it won’t last.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. I’m thrilled to say it grew and grew, and grew into what can only be described as a cultural phenomenon due to the genius of Sheldon Dorf. Without his inspired vision we might still be that acorn.”

Are we going to see a Captain Jack Sparrow Premium Format Figure?

Captain Jack will be in port very soon. Although with ol’ Jack Sparrow, you never know quite what to expect. Perhaps he’ll sneak his way onto the site, or perhaps he’ll make a truly grand entrance. Either way, we know it’s best to hide the ladies and the rum. We can offer you a couple of sneak peeks at his development at this time…
