Where are they now: C-3PO and R2-D2…

We’ve been receiving a lot of e-mails and phone calls about the life-size C-3PO and R2-D2 that were announced at San Diego Comic-Con! The Robot Man, Fred Barton, is currently working his magic on both droids, modifying and adjusting the masters to be the best possible. Fred recently traveled to the Lucasfilm Archive to review the real deal, the absolute and authentic original C-3PO and R2-D2. Newly inspired, he has returned to his workshop, and is giving both Threepio and Artoo a little TLC. We expect to have the masters completed within the year, and move into overseas production.

Stay tuned to the Sideshow Production Blog, Podcast, and Newsletter for continuing updates on C-3PO and R2-D2! In the meantime, enjoy these pics of The Robot Man and his babies:

  1. brenda says:

oh i want one of these..

  2. Wes says:

I too have been waiting an entire lifetime for a lifesize R2, and I can’t wait until the day they are available. Will there only be the pair for sale, or can you just buy R2 or 3PO seperately if you can’t afford the pair? I just hope that they don’t sell out before I get a shot at one. I will sell my house if I have to. (my wife just kicked me) what hun? it’s R2!!!

  3. j says:

I cringe at the price of the busts.. let alone a full scale rep!!!

  4. Jon says:

Ya know… these will go perfect side by side in my home theater, right next to my 1:1 Terminator. Uh wait… I have to buy one of those first. Well thanks for allowing me to dream anyway.

  5. dash maul says:

Well, considering the T-800 1:1 scale costs
$5950 alone, I would have to guess these two will easily set you back $7000!!

  6. C D says:

I have to say that this is complete, awesome madness. 1:1 scale is going to make the universe collapse in on itself.

  7. E.M. says:

These look fantastic!! I’m not worried about the shipping if I can afford the droids themselves. Will I have to mortage my house for these???
Anybody have a guess as to how much these will cost and can you buy them separately? Let see going to C3 in LA or saving for droids????

  8. Scarrack says:

I know they will be expensive, my question is will there be any electronic workings? Like light up eyes and or gadgets and perhaps a motion detector movable head for R2D2.

  9. Ben says:

That looks like a Death Star in one of the photos. What’s going on there? Is that another Sideshow product in the works??

  10. stonedchewy says:

Wooohaa….CHA-CHING $$$ CHA-CHING $$$ Would selling a kidney afford to buy the world’s favorite droids!?

  11. Ignacio says:

I wish i had a drinking partner like R2 at home. But i bet the price and shipping will be killers.

  12. Sharpy says:

Enough of the droids… give us Boba Fett! LOL

  13. corazon says:

It would be nice to have a flexpay plan for this one, because I want both of them. Sideshow is by far a cut above all other Star Wars licensed companies. Keep up the good!!!!

  14. real life me says:

I would be so happy if these were made available at blue-collar prices, but I know deep in my hear that they will have to be priced at the white-collar CEO amount. Unless Sideshow accepts my offer to name any future offspring “Sideshow” for a 90% discount on these, I know I won’t be getting them.

  15. Sir Tristram says:

Well, again, I am beyond thrilled. I have waited, quite literally, a lifetime for these!
I am going to get these no matter what!

I don’t see why shipping within the USA would not be the same as it is for the 1:1 Terminator T-800…and that is FREE!!!

Hey, sideshow opened that can of worms themselves! …and it makes a nice insentive to buyers of particularly the SET of droids to offer them free shipping!

  16. Dave says:

I have the life-size Artoo made by Don Post and the shipping was bad, but not THAT bad since something that size is shipped freight only- and by truck and boat. I have a feeling whatever the shipping cost is, it will pale in compairison to the cost of the actual item!

  17. DarthVerbo says:

I want them badly, but I have a feeling $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$too too too much!

  18. congerking says:

sounds good….i will do many-a-bad things for them….

  19. I-Bot says:

Awesome! However I cringe at the thought of shipping costs for these babies, especially for international customers. Or will these guys qualify for the FREE shipping?
