Here’s a collector question from a recent ‘Ask Sideshow’ submission:
Please, I want to know when will we see progress about Premium Format C-3PO, Jedi Luke, and Stormtrooper?
In the time since this question was submitted, you’ve seen the full monty on Jedi Luke. Sculpture development on C-3PO is done, and we’re working on R2-D2 in earnest. In the meantime, we’re working with our factories to determine the best production methods for both characters and refining our attack plan. We hope to reveal both droids sometime mid-2010, but we may choose to wait a tad bit longer and show full production pieces rather than prototypes. The Stormtrooper development is in the sculpture stage. We’re assembling a full set of armor, and next the pose and other creative decisions will be made (base design, etc).
Here’s another look at C-3PO:

We are in 2012 and still no new news! When I put on the market? I await with trepidation!

Saluti dall’Italia!:D
As others have said the outstretched arm isn’t film accurate. Just looking at the rod between the top and bottom part of the arm shows this. I’m hoping for the light up feature too. Maybe an exclusive feature could be sound…
A Stormtrooper exclusive with Han Solo head. Gosh hope not or I’ll have to buy that one as well
I have to agree with JJ that C3PO could not stretch his arm out the way it is in the picture. In the movies he just rests his arm on top of R2-D2 without stretching his arm. I hope this will be corrected. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of the final product release. Light-up features I hope. Keep up the good work SS.
Gosh seems I’m dumb and finaly realized Sideshow will never stop producing great Star Wars items. In the pipe R2-D2, C-3PO, the Emperor, D. Talon,… So just needed to cancel all other pre-order from Marvel. Bye bye Wolverine, Sabretooth, Gambit, Elektra, as well as Mola Ram or else would need a new home and a better paid job… Think I will blast(er) Jedi Luke as well. Don’t have any feeling for this PF. Now waiting to display Count Dooku near the beautifull Asajj Ventress. Fantasit job Sideshow, keep it coming.
looks amazing yet again ! sideshow keep up the great work .an exclusive for c-3po and r2-d2 should be a dirty version (as in not clean )
Gold plating and light up features are a must. No idea what an Exclusive edition could be since the restraining bolt ties Threepio to the first half hour of “A New Hope.” I guess, maybe it could be a non-restraining bolt version.
Kaydee – Thanks for your “ditto” regarding the finish on C-3PO! I’m sure that, if enough people make the same request in these posts, Sideshow will accommodate us. However, I shouldn’t underestimate or second guess Sideshow’s intentions for these droids – they may already have every intention to plate these to replicate the finish we are familiar with in the movies. Thanks again and, keep leaving those posts, folks!!…Ask and you shall receive!
These are coming along great, Sideshow!! Like others have said, the finish will make or break this for all of us. These NEED to have a metallic appearance!
Gold Chrome and Light up eyes are a MUST – I would easily pay premium for those features
Yes, as someone else said please do these in 1/6 scale too!
This is what I want to see: C3PO and R2D2 PF!!! Only Chewie is missing… but I hope Sideshow will realize him with fur as said
great sideshow! Hope see new images for that soon!
Sideshow, PLEASE consider producing a ANH Han head as the Stormtrooper exclusive. I’d even buy two of them to have them displayed in both ways.
Lights please!
We asked and you have listed!!!
Great work SS!
C-3PO will surely have moveable arms and rotating head. They did it with Robocop. Now agree that the paint finish should be shiny not just plain gold paint.
I didn’t know that C-3PO can stratch his arm like that. I don’t remember seeing it like that in the Movie. Sideshow, are you sure that’s accurate?
Good point Tom P re the plating. The 1/6 Kotobukiya 3PO & R2 set came with 3PO plated and it looks stunning! I’d GLADLY pay more to make sure it is plated.
I hope you plan to make R2D2 out of something far more durable than the card board mock up in this picture, C3PO is looking great…but nothing short of both R2D2 & C3PO sharing the same base with light up eyes on both characters would not only be an insult to the licence but the Sideshow Star Wars premium format line as too, I have my total faith that sideshow will listen to collectors and not let us down.
I agree they should be sold as a set. Looks great so far!
Wonder if these will be at a stage of developement where they will be ready to display at Comic-Con ’10? Like some other posts, i’m also hoping that the duo will be sold together. I like the pose as shown – it emphasizes the bond between the two! I’m sort of glad that it will be later in the year before we will be able to pre-order. This gives me time to find a way to pay for them! There is just one thing I think ALL the collectors here will agree on, Sideshow – PLEASE….give C-3PO a shiny body and not a gold painted one like what we saw on the Ark of the covenant that came with the exclusive Toht. Even if it costs more to produce, as i’m sure it will, I bet most Star Wars collectors will gladly pay more for a film accurate finish.
SWEEEEET! HOPING C-3PO’s EYES WILL LIGHT UP AS WELL AS R2-D2′s DOME! THIS IS A LONG OVERDUE PF FOR THIS FANTASTIC LINE! SWEEEEET!
I don’t know how posable the Premium Format Figures are, but if they are not, I would rather have these as a set, since the amazing Threepio here, would look silly by himself in this pose. As a fan of these droids, a definite buy!
thank you sideshow….thank you for this previews!!!!!!go Sideshow!!!!
very cool! strongly that it is in my window
1:6 scale too please
They will surely sell those separately as once you have one you would most probably get the other and a separate buy being more affordable you’ll get hooked more easily. Now those will need light ups definitely and for R2 some options on how to display him. From the angle of the photo I think he will be on 3 legs down as usual. An option there would definitely be nice.
Looks AWESOME!!!! Can’t wait to see the final piece! I hope R2 comes with him.
Great news about the Stormtrooper, I hope the (AOTC Clone please) Clone Trooper isn’t far behind!
totally awesome!! its better than eating with a fork and spoon!
Isn’t the C-3PO articulated?
The Star Wars PF line is my favorite, and it’s great to see that such classic characters are finally getting the attention they deserve. The droids need to be awesome, and it looks like they will be.
This pose seems perfect! This is what I’ve been looking for!
I agree with the previous posts. It should either be sold together as one piece, or separate with bases that can connect. Just when I’m thinking of slowing down on the Premium Format line, you guys reel me back in. Thanks Sideshow!
PLEASE give us the option of having R2′s middle foot up or down.Personally I’m sick of seeing him on all three – he’s only like this when moving; if the above pose was happening (with 3PO) then he’d be upright on two legs like at the end of A New Hope.
C-3PO looks fantastic! Definitely one of the best looking representations so far!
This is a definate buy.. In all honesty..I think they should be sold together, as one piece.
Two of my most highly awaited and anticipated PF sized figures. Can’t wait to get a hold of these.
If these are being sold separately, I’d like a way for the bases to be connected in some way.
Not what i collect in star wars but looks good. Nice classic pose.
