Looks Great!!!
Did anyone else noticed that Faramir looks like he is crying! I just found that out!☺♥
Oh Faramir thank you!
Looks good for just a head shot but a full body pic would be much better. Will wait for better exposure since he is not a member of the fellowship. How about a nice Treebeard, a major character that needs the Sideshow touch!
I think Gimli from the Legolas and Gimli on Arod is the best likeness I’ve seen. Just my opinion, but I think the Faramir face sculpt is just slightly less slender and delicate than it could be. However, I’m a Legolas fan so I guess I didn’t pay quite as much attention to Faramir.
I too, was worried that the Aragorn as Strider didn’t look spot on. But when I got him, I was amazed at how much he looked like Viggo Mortensen! He was gorgeous! So I am VERY hopeful about the Faramir figure. Can’t wait to order him…please no severed heads, tho’. I’d much prefer the cleaved horn of Boromir or something more suited to the character. Whoooohoooo!
I think Sideshow did nail Farmair very well in this 12 inch figure. So please guys don’t start whining again.
I think the hair sculpt was really hard to do, he has such a amount of hairs
He looks almost like Bon Jovi from the 80′s, but I really love this Faramir
Strange how we perceive things. He looks exactly like Faramir to some, and nothing like him to others. What exactly does or doesn’t look like him?
The more I looked at him – the more I swear HE MOVED!
Incredibly lifelike! Bravo, Sideshow!!!
Faramir or education, Faramir or education… *cry* This diploma had better be worth it!
While I’m looking forward to collecting Faramir, I am really disappointed that all the members of the Fellowship werent the completed first. I’m getting older, and at this rate, I won’t live to collect all 9 of them.
It seems like most people are quite pleased with the proto of Faramir. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole figure on the pre-order page this Friday morning and I expect he’ll look even better. From reading some of the recent posts it sounds like the exclusive WILL be the cloven Horn of Gondor!
If that’s true, then it’ll be a fitting Exclusive addition.
It’s good to see that more people are plugging for Gandalf these days. I’ve been doing it for months and was beginning to feel like nobody cared that much. Now that the Boromir & Faramir fans have gotten their favorites, I hope Sideshow will get back to the principal characters again. Gandalf has got to be next! After that, go ahead and surprise us with some minions from the dark side, or amaze us with Arwen, or Eowyn, or Galadriel, or…!
I think this picture is too close to the figure, so Sideshow please hire a better photographer. I am sure this 12 inch figure looks better in a distance of 20 inch, but this photo is damn close.
Oh my word! thank you Sideshow again this is a pretty good version of Faramir. I believe that it still needs some work to make the face look more like David Wenham.
Also the exclusive of Boromir’s cloven horn is a great exclusive for this figure. I am definately planning on pre-ordering this exclusive figure.
Yes I was hopeing for the exclusive to have Boromirs Horn thanks Sideshow its just what I wanted.
I think the sculpt looks great. I’m even more eager to see how the actual production piece looks when painted. The difference between the Aragorn prototype and the actual production figure was like night and day.
I agree with Jeremy S. about the fun factor when repainting the figure, but not everyone has that ability.
To Kaylee: go to statueforum.com to see some Aragorn repaints. Go to the Sideshow page and then look for “LOTR Aragorn 12″.
I think severed heads and/or arms/legs are great accessories, exclusive or not. That way you can set up your figures as if they are in the middle of a battle. Yes, I open and display all my figs. If SS kept the severed limbs as exclusive accessories then the people who find them to disgusting can just order the regular version. Personally, I think all the LOTR figs should each be coming with a part of a Battle-Troll that you could put together, since I dont think we will ever see a 1/6th versio of a troll, unfortunately. The Marvel Legends line of figures has gotten alot more popular since they started doing the build-a-figure thing.
OMGSH!!!!! that is the most beautiful figure i’ve ever seen of Faramir!!!!! I hope i get it for Christmas….
Nice figure. Shame it will be on sale for £35 on ebay when released!! Still, it beats paying @$100 from sideshow direct. How about selling the figures at realistic prices for direct order customers>
Yeah I saw him in that movie too LOL☺
The final product is what’s important. I thought Aragorn looked dead-on in the preview, but was disappointed in the final cut. So I guess the best way to review this sculpt is to have it in hand. Faramir is tough but it looks like they got the nose down. BTW, did anyone know Faramir was the wacky gadget guy in Van Helsing? Almost didn’t recognize him without the long hair.
EXCLUSIVE ACCESSORY?
I know! He comes with a ripped up New Line Cinema Hobbit contract!
REPAINTING.
It’s funny that the repainting issue is such a big deal.
Yes, you should get the perfect product initially, but realistically the price would go way up if they had to pay the folks in China to spend an hour detailing each doll’s face.
Aragorn just needed his beard area done more accurately with lights and darks. Now it really says “Movie Aragorn.”
(I’m sorry I don’t have a website to post an image on.)
I really enjoy the painting and touchup and see these dolls as an almost-built model kit when they arrive.
I’m glad Sideshow charges much less than Hot Toys, etc for a super detailed, articulated figure with clothing and such.
Likenesses could be a bit better, considering this business is what they do.
Can’t wait for Faramir Friday and here’s hoping for a little higher frequency in LOTR releases! Fun stuff.
Seriously looking forward to Gandalf the Grey.
And an Easterling.
And Armored Theoden.
And ARWEN!
And…
How can anyone say that this does not look like Faramir? When was the last time you watched the movies? I’ll be ordering mine on friday. Keep up the good work Sideshow!
I think this looks good. Cannot wait to see more production shots and to find out what the exclusive item will be!! I have seen people pay a lot more money out for 1/6 figures and repaint them (medicom/hot toys etc.) so this is not really big issue
I just remembered that the star wars figures prices got hiked up will this also happen to the LOTR figures?
these figures likenesses just arent hitting there mark .a sad thing, and also scarry!!! to think ,if the rumors are true, that sideshow plans to continue the statue and bust line .and that they will helm the sculpts .i just dont see it happening, nor do i understand why anyone would pay $70 for a 1/6 scale fig ,just to turn around and have to re paint it to get it to look the way it should .sideshow needs to get back to quality not quntity .a big disappointment for this fan.and yes i can do better!
Where are pics of people’s repainted figures? Just curious because people have been doing that lately.
I’d like to see sauroman next, it would be nice to see what treatement a bad guy would get in this series, we’ve had 5 good ones now, an evil once in a while would be great. ( though i’m waiting for eowyn the most…)
man to the whiners. could you do better. answer no. if sideshow decided to use the new technique for faces that jakks uses in make wrestling figures in there products. you would be paying more money and whining more. so stop. be happy. i am tired of the whiners.
i am not a collector of the lord of the rings line. But this figure looks alsome. i rewatched scenes with him in it and sideshow nailed the figure right on.
I’m sure the whole package, finished product will look absolutely spectacular (like all of Sideshow’s product), but I was hoping for a much better likeness. Ah well, I’m betting Gandalf will be the one that knocks it out of the park! Hopefully he’s coming soon.
Good job SS! I love how it looks like he is crying. He really looks like the Faramir in the movie. I’m guessing the exclusive item is either the map of Middle Earth, or Boromir’s split in half horn. I love my 12″ Aragorn. he looks awesome! Now all I need is Arwen. Please SS, make an Arwen 12″! ☺
I think it looks great, maybe a tad off in the nose area but not worthy of a fuss. I am really looking forward to seeing who may be next. I’ll put my vote in for the map also. Thank you for continuing to bring us such great work Sideshow.
The only figure I’d get is if you made a 12″ lurtz figure.
What about an exclusive set of oliphant tusks! lol!
I think the sculpt is good. Not dead-on, but dammed good still. For me, I am much more excited about the outfit and accessories. Those are what really make the figure for me. I also am extremely curious about the exclusive. My fingers are crossed for a Gondorian breastplate.
But I have to be realistic and assume it will be something more like a haradrim weapon or the cleaved horn.
…I have a really good idea for those…
The Faramir will be an awesome sculpt and figure, with some minor tweaking of course. I would also like to comment on SS current exclusive production numbers regarding LOTR 12″ line and PF format for that matter. First SS, I would like to know what your mission statement is regarding the manufacturing and selling of “collectibles.” I have well over 75 figures, statues, and toys from sideshow and sideshow/weta and I believe they are of the highest quality for that particular price range. Second, I would like to know how you determine what exclusive means to you guys and how you determine the number of exclusive to regular editions will be produced. My main opinion is that “exclusive” should mean hard to get and rare. I don’t see how some items have a 1750 exclusive count vs a 2000 regular edition count, i.e. Boromir. That means almost half the people have exc and half the people will own regular editions. It just doesn’t seem to make sense. Personally, I like to have items that are hard to get AND hold their value. And if you want my opinion on the super hard-to-get PF’s….
After your aragorn, you guys seem to be slipping a little ,as with boromir you guys are missing the likeness of the characters features, probably the strongest selling point for these figures, sad to seeyou guys dropping the ball again.
Can’t wait until next Friday!!!! I will be ordering this one, even though the exact likeness isn’t there. He still looks good enough for meeeeee!!! Who’s next????
I will definatly order one of the exclusives. It will be my first LOTR figure. Up until now I’ve only been a star wars fan.
This is a cool figure. Can’t wait for the rest of the Fellowship though. I vote for Gandalf next. Saruman should also be an easy one to make. I just wish they would include the Gondorian armor for Faramir. I think he looks better in them than the ranger uniform.
I’m a little disappointed that he doesn’t look more like Wenham (at least in this photo), but I’m still getting him; Faramir is one of my favorites in the films. Not being handy with a brush, repainting is out for me though, so whatever he looks like when he arrives will have to be it.
OMG!!! he looks so sad =(
I want it!!!!
Looks Good, but I’m waiting for Gandalf the Grey, I know there are a ton of figures dedicated to Mithrandir, but I want to see Sideshows take on the Wizard !
This is a prototype, so I’m not going to judge too harshly at this stage. It looks enough like Faramir, but he does seem to have Boromir’s nose…family resemblance? I think David Wenham has a less bulbous schnozz than this, but it may just be the paint job. An ultra-fine paint job would have brought out all the subtle features that fans identify with the actor and the Faramir character. It may just be me, but it looks a bit heavy to me for some reason. The original sculpt looked a lot more like him, so I’ll be ordering mine and waiting till the final production model is released to decide whether or not he gets a repaint. The cloven Horn of Gondor would indeed be a nice Exclusive accessory. The map would also be a good idea. I vote for BOTH!
I have to agree regarding Faramir’s likeness to be off but not by much. I can still look at this figure and say that’s Faramir. So I’ll definitely will be there to snag him and add him to my collection. I just hope that the exclusive won’t be some lame item that doesn’t the figure unique. I’m all for extra weapons, garments, portraits or extra accessories but not severed heads of something. I think those DOES NOT add anything to the figure. Overall, I can’t wait for this figure as well as the others to be made. Gandalf would be a good candidate to be next. As for the hobbits, since they are half the size of the regular figure, they should make them in 2 pack. Like Frodo & Sam or Merry & Pippin. I think those would be worth the price of a single regular figure. Anyway thats just my thoughts.
I mean 3 to 4 hours
I think he looks quite good and will definitly be ordering him, and i agree ss should go back to the fellowship (gandalf the grey) next. I think boromir sold out in 3/4 hours?.
My prediction on the exclusive: Boromir’s cleaved HORN OF GONDOR. Sideshow, make it so!!!
Jeremy: Where might we see a pic of your repaint? That sounds interesting. I doubt if I’d try it on a Sideshow though, too expensive for me to mess it up.
I’m not really a LOTR fan but I would definantly get a 12″ Saruman figure if you ever made one.:)
I’m quite fussy about these figures too but there’s nothing wrong with this one IMO, and my girl thinks he looks “cute”. Two thumbs up from us!!
I’m getting one for sure. He faces does seem a little off maybe it looks a little chubby but I learned that these things always look better in person. Thanks for making another one and keeping this line moving SS as long as you keep it up I’ll keep getting them.
I was wondering the same thing. How long does it take LOTR exclusives to sell out?
Not so good. Maybe looks like a close up of his stand-in but not him. Could we get back to the fellowship now please?
He looks like a cross between Boromir and Aragorn to me.
Okay, let the speculation about exclusive accessories begin!
Map of Middle Earth?
.
I just repainted my Aragorn and it looks almost dead on. As long as the sculpt is pretty accurate, a custom paint job does wonders for these once they arrive.
Can’t wait for the 8th!
Also could someone tell me if the LOTR Exclusive 12 inch figures sell out at fast as the Star wars figures do?.
YES YES YES YES YES
He looks great, I sure will pick one up. But I had actaully expected Gandalf to be the next figure after Boromir, but maybe next time…
He looks good, not great.
Sorry, but this looks nothing like Faramir… As already said, the unpainted version looked better. He might well look like a sad hero, but unfortunately not the one in the LotR movies.
Looks REALLY good. I unfortunately doubt that I or my customers will actually order him, because Sideshow’s LotR figures are justifiably pricy (for all the great detail and gear) and therefore out of our price range, dangit. But he does look well worth having if you’ve got the money.
I think he looks great. can’t wait till the 8th wanna see what the exclusive will come with.
What a great likeness! I sure hope the finished product has such an accurate face, and I second Joe’s comment on the eyes!
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As Pippin put it best: “I’m getting one.”
Having trouble seeing the likeness.
Good job SS. I am sure the likeness will be even better on the actual release figure just like it was on the Han Solo 12′ figure. Keep up the great work. I just wish the figures came out a little quicker. But I understand that good things come to those who wait.
he looks great, a good job on his eyes, they capture that sad hero look quite well.
Looks good. I’ll be online for this one.
DARN!!!!!!!!!!! He looks off! I was so hoping that the first Faramir to be made would be awesome….The sculpt looked a lot better unpainted!
