Sideshow to create World of Warcraft Licensed Collectibles

World of Warcraft

Thousand Oaks, CA (January 18, 2007) - High-end collectible manufacturer Sideshow Collectibles has joined forces with leading game developer Blizzard Entertainment® to produce a ground breaking new line of licensed high-end collectible polystone figures and dioramas. The original sculptures will be based on the world's leading subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game: World of Warcraft®, and its highly anticipated expansion World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade™.

Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment®, World of Warcraft is an award-winning, subscription-based, massively multiplayer online game played by more than 8 million gamers around the globe. World of Warcraft's vivid universe is populated by cunning gnomes, mystical night elves, and other fantasy races seeking and vying for treasure, power and glory. The game's many monsters, villains, heroes and their earth-shattering conflicts will be captured in a line of high-end statues and stunning dioramas produced by the talented artistic team at Sideshow Collectibles.

"Most of us at Sideshow play World of Warcraft and are big fans of Blizzard and the vast universe they've created," indicated Sideshow's Creative Director Tom Gilliland. "The opportunity to translate interactive media into high quality 3D products is an exciting challenge for us. While we are very well accustomed to recreating reality from films, the challenge of recreating the style of a game universe presents a new vista for us creatively. With the exciting new content coming into the World of Warcraft universe through The Burning Crusade expansion, we have an opportunity to explore characters and races that are fresh to both us and World of Warcraft fans, while still also focusing on the classic races."

More information, including images and details of upcoming World of Warcraft licensed products, will be available at www.SideshowCollectibles.com.

we can only hope that the 12″ figures come, and come soon. they would make an awesome day for me, to see wha they are going to make these look like, they should make them armor sets :P, dress them up :P

  2. Mondrius of Cenarius says:

It has been proven that Alliance merchandise outsells Horde merchandise by a huge margin. A better class of people tend to play Alliance characters. Horde merchandise is more likely to get stolen because the people that play those characters can’t afford the stuff.. I’d spend much more time developing the Alliance product line. I’d also reccommend keeping any rogue merchandise under lock and key ( a good lock and key ).

  3. Ægony says:

Guys at sideshow please if u make a a warlock, make it full tier 5,
that has to be be most “bad-ass” tier along with tier 5 hunter and t4 warrior,in my opinion it looks wicked on undead and blood-elf,hunter tier looks awesome on night elf.but even more important bring us really nice quality please stay with the standard you are much recognised for, detail is much apreciated and i’ll spend big bucks on this.

    Best regards!

  4. berfew says:

    I WANT 24″ GNOME WARLOCK
    and a naga please

  5. Snakers says:

I just want to see a 1:1 T5 Undead Rogue. wewt!

  6. nightmareofdarknes says:

It would be cool if they marketed some blanks for the artistic people to paint to their specifications.

  7. MegaLacu says:

    This is good game

  8. Blancheal of Tichondious says:

I want a dashboard mounted bobblehead female Tauren:)

(every blonde female driver should have one)

  9. brandon says:

    blah

  10. The Nerd says:

Can you guys have a contest of some sort to make someone’s character?

  11. The Nerd says:

Make a statue of my character! lol

  12. James says:

id definatley like to see a custom figure of my character in game to put on my desk i think that would be very cool..

  13. HAPPYBOY says:

This looks to be a very new and unique line of collectibles from the talented folks at Sideshow. Having never played the game myself I am still very excited to see what figures may come from WoW. I have always been impressed with the characters and environment of WoW from what I have seen and there looks to be a wide array of options available for the folks at Sideshow to put thier special touch on. Sounds like it is going to be a fun line for everyone, gamers and non-gamers alike.

  14. Brom Tacarr says:

That is a really great idea, though I personally think it to be a bit farfetched…great none the less! I’ld be willing to pay for a personalized figure.

  15. baz says:

@ Menathis: I think customization you speak of would cost a lot more than $50, but I truly like the idea.

  16. bobbarker says:

I highly doubt they will be custom made. If they were custome made they would cost at the least 150-250 bucks. More than likey there gonna just use a mold and mass produce highly detailed figurines.

On another note. Theres noobs on both horde and allaince as seen from some of the comments above. But ill have to say horde is easy mode with racials like warstomp, will of the forsaken, and the new bloodelf racials is pretty rediculous. But then the new drenai racial is an improvement for the alliance. Other than that we have escape artist :/

  17. Menathis says:

They should allow you to copy your current character in imo like press ALT + Z then take a picture of each side of your character. Then they will make that specific character for you and you can choose Melee attack - block - parry - dodge - *helpful spell* - *Harmful Spell* - Ranged Attack “Bow”[Crossbow}(Gun) and so on so if you wanted to you could get a picture of your specific character with what ever he/she has currently equipped or you can state what you would like your character to hold and so on and so forth. “also with name plate of his/her Class PVP rank and name and professions (If Wanted, maybe just name and class)”. The figurine would probably cost $50.00 each but if you wanted to collect your full character you could do it in each sequence of Combat. So yeah thats my thoughts but can’t wait for these!!!

  18. saruman010 says:

I’m hoping to see High Inquisitor Whitemane among the collectibles they will make. I think she would be an awesome addition.

  19. Murmel says:

How long does it usually take to make a figurine? I think what Erinmycal said was interesting, if you could custom choose your figurine’s look, that’d be awesome, but that would make it more expensive, for the makers and for the buyers, although i bet that if you could choose just the right hair colour for your figurine, or the armor set or anything, people would be more likely to buy them. Can’t wait to see some pictures :)

  20. stormy says:

yes, i agree with Noobkiller, it doesnt matter about which sides appears to be better, this forum thing is about the models not the greatness of the factions.
but i do enjly playing my human priest

  21. Noobkiller says:

WoW this is about figurines, which I am happy about, but as usually, people with out much attention span degress from the issue and spin it into barrens chat or even ironforge chat. there is no differance to horde or allaince (i play both) neather one is catered to, and ALL have to work for there loot…so stop argueing about who or what is better and talk about the real issue….these kick ass figurines.

PS if you must know…I perfer horde over allaince anyways too many 12 year old kids playing lolidans for my sanity

  22. Calice of Llane says:

How many statues are they going to make cause i want five!

  23. localzero says:

NEOPOLE YOU FAIL, JUDGEMENT is TEW PWNZORZZ!!!1!

  24. faust says:

will they make the grand boss figurines of each instance at least 12 inches high.

  25. Anonymous says:

    nice

  26. zabrak says:

i just what to see some pics

  27. Hordesux says:

Effex, The people who play horde only do so because the game is sorely favored to them. They would not play alliance because you actually have to work for your loot. No low instances right in your starting city to get mid level stuff from.

  28. Neopole says:

I would love to start collecting WoW figurines, i dunno how far along on the design and sculpture stage, but I would love to see each class in there tier 2 armor set, for me i’m a paladin, and it would just be completly awesome to have a pally figurine in full Judgment armor, after all Pallys tier 2 set is the best looking in the game IMHO.

  29. Diane Woods says:

This is awsome, I can not wait to see what they come up with.

  30. Tz says:

Locks, dude, imagine a t3 lock, or maybe a t4…t5 is not the best imo…

  31. Erinmycal says:

    Not all Allies are arrogant.
Just as not all Horde are … financially-challenged.
People are people, despite whichever faction they chose.
A wide range of players chose both, on separate servers.

With that taken care of, I am rather excited to hear of these. I can’t wait to see what sort of action-sequences turn up! I only wish a company would have the time and resources to give the buyer a custom model, with their choice of race, class, gear set, face/hair, etc. I’ve been thinking of that one for a while, long before hearing of the creation of Sideshow figurines. That, of course, would be extremely expensive and quite a wait for production, I’m sure… Just a theory.

  32. Effexx says:

Mondrius’ post just goes to show the average mindset of Alliance players.. Idiocy aside, I can’t wait to see what Sideshow has planned for this line.. It will be an enormous collection if they try to do a figure for each Faction’s race/class/sex (not to mention the different gear sets).. I wouldn’t be able to commit to purchasing each one.. However, I would be greatly interested in dynamic action displays with a Horde fighting an Alliance, or even just a simple one-figure display that captures the essence of each class.. I can’t wait to see what’s up their sleeves..

  33. Koko says:

Can’t wait for these! :D Hopefully they’ll make a Moonkin figurine, hehe.

  34. Blue Mongoose says:

It seems Mondrius seems to have an ego problem, newsflash bud, THERE IS NO SUPERIOR RACE OR OCCUPATION, I believe 2 of each class and race combo should be made, obviously, one male and one female

  35. Mondrius of Cenarius says:

I hope you will consider a large collection of Night Elf Hunters since they are the superior race and occupation. I also would put much time or trouble into horde characters because the people that play horde characters probably can’t afford them anyway. For The Alliance !!!

  36. Tellessa says:

@ Dag; you can’t see the figures yet because they haven’t been made yet

    /sigh

  37. Dag says:

Yeah why no pictures? I’d be more likely to buy them if I could see them

  38. venom says:

    venom is strong

  39. Gallank says:

I am ready, I have a collection of EverQuest figurines.
I think 6″ to 12″ would be good..I am limited on space to
    display these figurines.

When will they be for sale on this site ?
where can we view them now ? (if production has already begun)

  40. Kevin says:

My Wallet is not prepared, and it better be bigger then 12 inches. I have MANY sideshow figures at my house, life size predator bust, Spidey, Ghost Rider. All have been exceptional quality. Now to find out they are going to be making pieces for WoW, I must repeat. My Wallet is not prepared.

  41. kt says:

I’m going to assume “high quality 3D products” means 12-inch figures. Come on, Sideshow–bring on a 1:6 Night elf! :)

  42. sabiansix says:

    So no 12 inch figures?
