Anakin vs. Obi-Wan Diorama

Sideshow Collectibles Expands Star Wars™ Range With Exciting New Diorama Series - Versus Line Depicts Environments and Epic Conflicts From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Thousand Oaks, CA (February, 2007) -Enthusiastic Star Wars collectors are getting a new opportunity to expand their Star Wars collections with a new range of collectibles from Sideshow Collectibles that bring some of the most famous scenes and environments from the epic adventure saga to life as beautifully sculpted polystone collectibles.

Sideshow Collectibles, of Thousand Oaks, California, worked closely with Lucasfilm Ltd. to produce the new line, which builds on its three successful lines of Star Wars products, including 18-inch Premium Format figures, 12-inch plastic figures, and life-size collectibles.

The designs for the Star Wars 'Versus' dioramas were drawn from the most dynamic and dramatic confrontations in the films, and the environments will seek to capture some of the Star Wars Saga's vast landscapes, immense creatures and varied locations - but in a reasonable size that collectors can display on a desktop or hang on a wall. The size and scale will vary, but most of the 'Versus' dioramas will be in approximately 1:9 scale. The Star Wars 'Versus' environments will vary greatly in size and scale.

"Star Wars offers an amazing wealth of characters, environments, architecture, and incredibly memorable scenes," says Tom Gilliland, Sideshow's Creative Director. "With the Premium Format, 12-inch, and life-size lines, we are able to really explore the character sculpture and costuming, reproducing it in exact or smaller scale, but the characters are each produced as individual products. We're tremendously excited to branch out with the new Diorama series, to capture the dynamic confrontations, the action and excitement of the lightsaber duels, and to make some of the big environments in a collectible scale. This is going to be a very diverse line, one with a lot of energy."

Like nearly all of Sideshow Collectibles' products, Star Wars Diorama series will be issued in limited editions. MSRP will range from $50 to $350.

  1. markus says:

this is by far my favorite item in my collection i absolutley love it and its the greatest!!!! i have mine ona super sweet giant medal and glass display with stained glass under it that looks like lava and display lights that shine underneath lighting up my lava river underneath.its the best diorama of them all and worth every cent in book thank you sideshow i love your work

  2. james says:

i know who sculpt this.. he is a friend of mine
he did a lot of hot toys. including ironman

  3. Cherie says:

It looks pretty awesome, yet again another piece way out of my price range….

  4. Anonymous says:

I would like to see a diorama of the climatic scene from
the sword duel in “Revenge of the Sith” where Anikan is engulfed in flames while Ben Kanobi is wathcing atop the hillside

  5. JohnyBoo says:

Absolutely gorgeous and very well done. I cannot wait to see further products from this line. Keep it up SS.

  6. straiker fett says:

I would love to see Jango Fett VS. Obi-Wan Kenobi.

  7. Ann says:

Hope we’re going to get dioramas from all 6 movies. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll have.

  8. Rusty Morris says:

The detail looks great but obi-wan needs a better pose it looks like hes going to fall over

  9. Nick says:

I get it, you want a suggestion. “Nick, don’t complain unless you have a solution.” Ok, ok. How about immortalising the surprise choke on the table, as Anakin pushes Obi-Wan down by the throat mouthing a nasty, nasty insult. Priceless.

  10. Nick says:

If this is supposed to represent Obi-Wan’s backflip to “the high ground” it does a poor and awkward job. Honestly, that didn’t strike me as a good frame to pause at and glorify. Boo.

  11. RolandofGilead says:

This looks fantastic, and after just watching Revenge of the Sith again this weekend we wants it. But I guess it will all depend on the scenes chosen and the prices. Those 12″ figures are already weighing heavily on my wallet.

  12. Seretur says:

Nick, this is very close to a moment in the movie, just not the one you have in mind.

Go watch the scene again. Think of it as homework… :)

  13. Nick says:

Sorry if mentioned before, life and all, but wasn’t Anakin the one who almost lost his balane during the fight? Juxtapose the two (pretty hard to do, that’s why you do your homework, Sideshow) and there’s a chance I’ll order.

  14. astro666 says:

This is a great idea. I love dioramas. But I know I wont be getting any of these. The possibilities are so tremendous,(such as the ones mentioned in the posts above) I know I will love each one when I first see them, but I know I wouldnt be able to afford them all and I wouldnt want to start a new line if I know I wont be able to get the coolest ones which I am sure will be the most expensive ones. Some of us do have a budget and limited display space, there is no way I could start collecting these unless I start hanging stuff from my ceiling. But SS, if you start making diorama bases for your 12 inch line then I will just have to sign over every one of my paychecks to you. Thanks for all your great product lines SS, youve got a collector here that will be with you as long as I can keep ordering cool stuff or until my apt is so jammed full that I cant get in or out.

  15. Tony says:

Didn’t like this at first untill i saw the pictures on rebel scum, Sign me up i’m in, and i have to agree with Seretur above vader reaching out to luke just as he’s tells luke that he is he’s father would be amazing, espically if all the bits of the tower and lit up. another would be the jawa’s carring off R2D2 all with light up eyes.

  16. SidiousSith says:

WOW!!!!!!!! SO loving this idea!! Sheer brilliance, that most definately is. All I can say is-Luke v. Vader, (DSII?)Anakin v. Asajj, (Clone Wars Style!) Yoda v. Sidious, & Maul v. Obi Wan & Qui Gon would just be so COOOL!!! :D
    Excellent work, Sideshow.

  17. JediWade says:

Damn Sideshow! It looks like you’ve caught the spirit of Emiril, and your hell bent on taking it up a notch. If this is any indication of what you have in store for the upcoming year I’m gonna need to start a Sideshow fund. I’m even considering fliping my Hasbro Star Wars and Star Trek collections to start. Keep in mind I’ve had these babies since 1992. As a serious collector I only hunt for truly limited items. How about doing a diorama of Assaj versus Anakin, but do it Clone Wars style. One other idea that would be a trend sitter would be if you produced a Flip Diorama, such as Anakin Skywalker on one side and Darth Vader on the other. BAM!

  18. Captain Tazer says:

Because of the immobility of the figures, I don’t care about these Diorama sets. I want the twelve-inch figures where you yourself can set up a pose to your liking and such. Simple statues are just too dull for my personal liking. It’s the immobility of the figures that made me stop buying the regular three-inch toys when they started to come out in molded action-poses that you couldn’t get away from. More 12-inch figures Sideshow, or no purchase.

  19. JIM says:

This looks sweet! It will go well in front of my 12″ and premium format figures.Way to go, Sideshow! Another homerun!

  20. Skullsplitter says:

What a great freakin idea!! i’m not to crazy about prequel stuff (other than the clones & Darth Maul) but the idea of the vs. dioramas is fantastic. i can’t wait to see what SS will come up with for the original trilogy. Gotta like the idea of the various pricepoints, that way everyone can afford to collect various SW pieces without having to sell their blood.

  21. Ken Benobi says:

I like it, but that price range is pretty vague. I’m more about the $50 end of the range than the $350 part…

  22. HAPPYBOY says:

Now there ya go! I just knew this was going to be a truly great line. I just love the looks of this diorama. Thanks to all the great folks at work bringing these truly great works of art to us, you are all a truly talented bunch of people. What a great addition to the Sideshow family of collectibles. Thank you Sideshow.

  23. Eddie says:

DAMN! Is Sideshow trying to get me to get a second mortgage in my house? This is too sweet to pass up!

  24. Luca says:

    JUST ONE WORD, YESSSSSS!!!

  25. Puay says:

SSC any chance the base of this diorama set be made into 1/6 scale?

  26. Puay says:

I am still very much a loyal follower of the SW 12inch line. I will have to look at the actual product before deciding whether to purchase any item from this new line.

  27. Mini-Rock says:

PERFECT!! This is exactly what I’ve been hoping for!

  28. jabba da god says:

obi wan looks okay, but anakin doesn’t look like anakin tho….almost.

  29. Trevor S says:

You had to know if SS was doing LOTR dioramas they would be doing Star Wars.

  30. Seretur says:

The “immense creatures” and “hang on a wall” bits are very interesting…

Could we be looking at the Obi-Wan on Boga vs. Grievous?

Or a wall-mountable catwalk on which Luke lost his hand?

    This is so TREMENDOUSLY exciting!

  31. urbanfreddy says:

    I CAN’T WAIT, I LUVVVVVVVV IT.

  32. BrianB says:

I hope the lightsabers light up!

  33. Crammit the Frog says:

Wow…first the LOTR diorama, now this! I see a fiery trend to the first diorama released by each line, but it’s a good start for both. I would have prefered to see a more striking pose for Obi-Wan than the off balance position, but it is still a thrilling piece….definitely something to add to my collection!

  34. SteelJedi says:

Holy Cow, I have been wondering if they were going to do a Star Wars diorama line and BooooYaa! Love Sideshow and I’ll be snagging these just as I have all their Star Wars VCDs, PFs and Life-Size busts. The only thing left in wallet will be cobwebs.

  35. darthverbo says:

I was just thinking this would be a great line for the Star Wars universe after I saw the Frodo/Gollum diorama.
Very cool! Can’t wait to see what else is planned this year!

  36. Alexander says:

    Looks amazing!

  37. arnold says:

I cannot wait to see Luke Versus Vader in the carbon freezing chamber!!!!

  38. Seretur says:

This announcement is music to my ears. There’s no way I’m not getting a single one of these pieces!

  39. Joe says:

This is sweet!! Great idea – there are so many awesome possibilities.

  40. Sir Tristram says:

Well, I am liking this more than the LOTR set, but where is the info on the 1:1 scael droids!!!!????
