It’s always great when you can not only be informed, but in addition entertained! I am sure you had enjoyment writing this write-up.

  2. Nacho Casado says:

Peter we both know you’re the real clone, just accept the fact I have a hot wife and you have… hey try that girl that just walked by!

  5. chris foulkes says:

The statue is very nice. Adam Hughes did an awesome work on the design and the statue itself was sculpted and painted very well.

    Great Job Sideshow

  6. JerryRice says:

I got a black and red wet Spidey suit with mine. Looks more like the one on order page. Is that a Faux-pas? Should I return it or would it be more valuable? Like a variant? Let me know! Sideshow please email me on this asap!

  7. Dunedain says:

I’m really glad I’ve got this piece it looks so beautiful. Sideshow keep this line going!

  8. Tony says:

    Shoot…I’ll do HER laundry.

  9. Darth Kirk says:

Adam Huges does what artists like Arnold Armitage, Olivia De Berardinis, Gil Elvgren, Zoe Mozert, George Petty & Alberto Vargas made famous; Cheesecake/Pin-up art.
When I received thsi statue for my Spider-Man collection, my wife said “WOW! What a beautiful piece of art” and noted that it reminded her of Olivia’s paintings.
When I told her about the controversy about this statue, all she could say was that “Some people really need to get a life…or get l**d.”

  10. Patrick says:

This piece is the Ballz!!! I can’t wait to get it, she is damn hott!!

  11. Horner says:

lord……. have mercy… baby’s got her blue jeans on!

  12. pspiwak@sbcglobal.net says:

    Hubba, Hubba, Hubba … !

  13. Mike says:

It’s amazing the press that this statue has received – good for sideshow! The women rallying against MJ are jealous of her body. Essentially, that’s what it comes down to. I am a fan of females. I treat them with great respect and happen to also love their bodies. Am I not supposed to feel that way? Is a man’s wife not supposed to touch their husband’s laundry? If they do, does that make them subserviant? Rediculous! How ODD is it that a female might be doing chores or relaxing around the apartment in something she feels comfortable in? What? You mean she isn’t wearing a suit? Unheard of! It is odd that with so much exposure of the female form in media/art that MJ (the symbol of strength in a relationship) was chosen to go after by these extremists. This statue is meant to show a fun situation in the lives of one of the longest lasting couples in fiction. Nothing about it is degrading to women. My girlfriend and I can’t wait until it’s on our shelf.

  14. Dallas says:

It’s a beautiful work of art. I truly hope that you extend your contract with Mr. Hughes and produce an entire universe of Marvel Women. THEN move into the D.C. universe. I know I won’t be the only one to buy all!

  15. Philippe says:

Wow I’m amazed by some primal reactions on a statue while you can get pornography on the net. Wrong fight ladies. Myself I order this one because it’s fun, just a big wink at the whole Spiderman story. I can’t but imagine Spidey waiting in a pink night gow for his outfit to dry which will explain the big smile of Jane and Jane telling him “but honey how can you stain your outfit like that all the time, it wouldn’t be for me and you’ll have to go naked soon” then having him looking down ashamed. Personaly if my wife would ever wash my clothes like this I’m sure she doesn’t think degrading but “hey honey want to join the party”. This is what we call complicity in a couple and that’s what this statue is about between Jane and Parker.

  16. patrick says:

This is a finely crafted piece.

    It is not offensive.

First of all, while it is a portrayal of a well-figured woman, saying that it is offensive is saying that well-figured women are offensive. That is silly.

Second of all, it is up to the customer to decide whether or not something is worth their money. If someone does not like this figure, all they have to do is not pay for it.

If you do like the figure, you should be allowed to buy it.

  17. gregoryj says:

Yes, there are worse things out there but that doesn’t really make a difference as to what the nature of this one is. And the fact that it’s accurate to Hughes’ original work is either here nor there. I don’t think anyone’s saying that his portrayal of Mary Jane wasn’t sexist but the statue is. Yeah, it looks like the picture it’s based on. The picture is just as bad.
And yes, she’s fully dressed (well, basically), and it would be more offensive if she were naked, but your whole argument seems to just boil down to ‘it may be sexist but so is the comic, and besides, it could be worse’.

  18. brien says:

it’s easy to see that alot of you people aren’t familiar with Adam Hughes work.this is the way he draws women.this is his interpretation of mary jane watson not yours.do all you people who don’t even collect sideshow pieces or read comics b@tch at everything else you don’t like.she’s fully dressed.playboy is sold at every corner store in america are you people there telling the clerks how you feel about a magazine with degrading pictures in them being sold at the same store you buy mlik at?do you contact Hugh Heffner and tell him how you feel?probably not.so go do what ever it is you like to do(besides b@tch and moan)and let the people who collect sideshow pieces and read comics enjoy Mr Hughes work.sideshow and AH! please keep up the good work

  19. gregoryj says:

Looks like everyone’s saying a lot of the same things. Yes, it is a comic book character: however degrading it might be, it’s not a real person. But the fact that people need to point out it’s not a real person it’s happening to suggests it would be bad if it was a real person.
Also, Mary Jane probably would do the laundry, and doing the laundry isn’t degrading in itself. But she probably showers and goes to the toilet too, we just don’t see statues of it.
If you don’t find this offensive, then that’s one thing, but it’s a barefoot woman in a g-string with cleavage bursting out and a lot of midriff showing, bending over a laundry basket, so I can’t believe that anyone’s surprised people find it offensive.
And the fact that there’s more degrading portrayals of women out there in comics or real life doesn’t make this better; don’t use it as a defense.
People obviously think it’s sexual (eg first 8 posts). If you want slutty artwork, that’s fine, but don’t pretend it’s not that.

  20. Boo says:

I can recognize that this is a well-executed piece, but the choice of pose is fairly horrifying. I’m a woman who’s been reading comics for thirty years, and I hope my local comic book store owner doesn’t carry this. I’d like to get my own kid into comics, but I can’t do it if I can’t take her into the store because I’d rather delay her exposure to degrading images like this. I’m trying to get my nieces into comics, but I have a feeling if their parents took their daughters to a store and saw this piece, they’d march right back out, and that’d be that. One less geek girl in the world.

Not to get all “won’t someone please think of the children” but please do choose your material wisely.

  21. Tal says:

As a work of art, it is quite attractive, and the artist has done a great job on a fantasy piece. But from a feminist point of view, it is obviously degrading. Those people saying that freedom of speech should mean that they cannot be told what to like and what not to like are certainly missing the point – that freedom of speech is all about projecting what you believe. To listen or not to listen is anyone’s choice; but just understand that people will voice their opinions. There isn’t really anything you can do about it.

I myself am a fan of MJ, and much as I like to see her looking attractive, I have to agree that I’d have preferred to see her in something less sex-symbol-like and more imposing. Perhaps a more fun piece would be her waiting impatiently in front of a washing machine, maybe looking at her watch and thinking how she could be doing something better with her time?

This entire issue is overblown, but there is a feasible standpoint to it.

  22. justanotherjuy says:

The face is too wide – looks a little masculine – otherwise this is a pretty neat statue!! btw the “pearl necklace” is a subtle but fun addition!!! ;-)

  23. kevin says:

Man..sold out already. What do we have to do get a higher production run on these? With all the bonus publicity this piece has been getting, I feel it would be warranted. Thanks!

  24. jamesdestro says:

Please do not change the statue, it is the minority who find this work of art offensive.
They just do not understand the character therefore they do not understand the statue.
Since the days of Steve Ditko and John Romita Mary Jane Watson was a party girl who was always looking for a good time, that’s why things didn’t work out between her and Peter in the 60′s. Once the 80′s and 90′s hit she became a model and more specifically a sex icon for Marvel Comics.
As compared to some of the Todd MacFarlane artwork of MJ this “scandalous” statue is tame.
The message is clear, this is a work of beauty, plain and simple.
    Please don’t change anything.

  25. Alex says:

Right….artist….this statue is amazing don’t change a thing Sideshow! It’s a drawing not based on reality, but imagination. Something a true artist would be understand…great piece look forward to this one any many more like it. Keep up the good work Sideshow!

  26. Alex says:

statue is amazing don’t change a thing Sideshow! It’s a drawing not based on reality, but imagination. Something a true artist would be understand…great piece look forward to this one any many more like it. Keep up the good work Sideshow!

  27. Bleh says:

Sexist? who cares. I’m just wondering where the poor girl’s internal organs went! and wondering what SHE was bitten by to give her that sense of balance.

seriously… it’s very pretty.. but the anatomy and balance issues destroy this piece for me. Maybe it’s just because I’m an artist and know what the real stuff’s supposed to look like?

  28. SPAZZIE says:

It’s so annoying how this had made it to news headlines and everything, saying that this is an “outrage”. It’s to bad that this piece is already out of stock and it’s not even shipped yet!! I stand strong in being feminine and all for woman power, but people need to get a grip. This piece is just amazing and I hate when woman say that crap about how it’s so wrong. Suck it up ladies, the majority of us DO GO THROUGH THE LAUNDRY BASKET. You’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t! Holy…People are always trying to find something to complain about. It’s not that big of a deal..I think the work is amazing and Mary-Jane is a huge part of the comic books of Spider-Man and it’s just really cute and it’s awesome. I love it!!

  29. Noadi says:

Oh come on! This is a simple pinup girl. It’s sexy not sexist. Since I’m a woman who has been on the receiving end of sexism before and am an artist myself I can tell the difference. There’s a lot of things that lead to domestic violence but a woman being sexy or doing laundry aren’t on the list, anti-female culture does lead to abuse no question about it but this how is this anti-female? Seems to me like it’s celebrating female beauty. It’s not implying women are stupid, weak, or in any way inferior. Merely that women are sexy and and I’m sorry if some of the women complaining don’t feel that women should be sexy but I sure do and am very proud of my sexuality and being a woman, while I of course feel it more important for a man to find me smart, talented, and creative you can bet I also want them to think I’m sexy (and to be fair to men I find them sexy too and there aren’t nearly enough pieces of sexy male art out there).

  30. brien says:

sideshow if you’re going to change the statue just add a second laundry basket and put more clothes in it so it’s overflowing.

  31. KUNG says:

Is this piece from the 1940′s or what? Let me tell you one thing: I recognize sexism and racism when I see it. This is like having a statue celebrating slavery. You are of course free to have such one as well, but do not try to convince me that such a statue is celebrating freedom. Neither is this. So do not get surprised when people get upset. You know, that’s also part of freedom of speech. What is offensive or not has nothing to do with nudity or sex, but how you look at other people and their place as subjects in your world.

  32. Anonymous says:

How can anyone produce such a terrible piece of plastic without being ashamed?

  33. Peter says:

I find this statue to be very tasteful and in a way Loving. It’s simply an attractive female Who happens to be washing her husbands Outfit. What, would it have been more feasible to have MJ standing in front of a Washmachine? Some people always have to find something to complain about. Well As a 29 year old male I know what is tasteful and or isn’t acceptable, Maybe if MJ wasn’t wearing a shirt at all and was topless then I could see the Debate. However this is not the case! And being if that were the case the amount of sales Sideshow would have would be astronomecal. So Obviously Not only do SIdeshow and Marvel have Integrity, but they also aren’t greedy. I guess let the people who want to complain do so. I stick by Marvel and Sideshow Collectibles 100%

  34. Tia says:

Lisara, you’ve totally missed the point. I agree men often do the laundry as well, but I’ve never seen a statue of a comic book superhero doing his laundry. Someone point one out for me if I’ve missed it, but I doubt it.

  35. Heather says:

Cindy, how do you know we’re not out campaigning about women being abused? Working on domestic violence is part of my job. That’s partly why I don’t like the doll; there are definitely links between an anti-female culture and the rise of domestic violence. Read any book about it — I’ve been studying it for 10 years.

  36. Lisara says:

I honestly cannot believe, with some of the other peices available, that people are getting up in arms over this. I hope Sideshow and Marvel do not bow to the ridiculous demands of a few people seeking publicity on the coattails of Spiderman’s commercial success. I am a woman, and a housewife. Know what? I’m barefoot pretty much all the time unless I leave the house. My husband and I both do laundry, so what is so sexist about a woman doing laundry? Dear God it is a comic book character. There are actual real women, and I use the term loosely in many cases, in the world who do FAR more damage to the image and respectability of women. You don’t care for it? Don’t buy it! Don’t try to control what the rest of us can or cannot buy just because it offends you. I would definitely buy this for my husband.

  37. Anonymous says:

Love it. Love it. Love it.

I don’t think i can say it enough, to me its the way I would like to see Mary-Jane in the movies, that very model of a woman. Absolutely fantastic piece of art.

People wonder why i love comic books, second to story line, its all about the art.

Did I mention I Love IT??

  38. k says:

I hope Sideshow does not give in to the negative feedback of certain group of highly over-sensitive individuals. There are far more offensive and negative interpretations of females out there that they can be offended about. This is tame compared to everything else. For God’s sake, if you’re offended so easily by this, why don’t you go picket in front of Paris Hilton’s house? She is degrading the image of women far worse than a Mary Jane Maquette!

  39. Kes says:

You know, Peter Parker is a pretty nice guy. One would think that he would at least try to get his Mary Jane some clothes that weren’t several sizes too small. Especially since she’s nice enough to wash his suit by hand.

The detail is really outstanding. I just wish the subject didn’t manage to portray women as sexual objects and domestic slaves at the same time.

  40. Tazmash says:

I really like Adam Hughes’ artwork and this statue and the Emma Frost one are amazing. These are works of art and there are way worse things out there that people consider art. Romans and Greeks sculpted goddesses and legendary heroes and this is no differet.Let’s get off of the negeativity about this and focus on what Adam Huges should do next. My vote is for Storm.

  41. cindy says:

get a grip!!!!!! There are women being abused every day and you freak about this!!!!!!

  42. MarcusB. says:

I really don’t see the point of a controversy over this.

Please, Sideshow, as a collector, I would love to have this piece, not have it’s production cancelled because a bunch of damned hippies.

    ’nuff said.

  43. Gabriel says:

I support your mary jane doing laundry statue. It’s hot, comical, and fun. Great job.

  44. Randy says:

I just received the Emma Frost piece and it’s FAR MORE adult oriented than MJ going through the dirty laundry. I’m disappointed that I missed out on this one. I think I’ll jump on the waiting list. All this controversy just makes me want it more…

  45. Chris says:

    I hope Sideshow is listening….I have a great idea…

You can do a variant edition of the MJ Statue for those who have a problem with the first edition.

You can call it “Burkha MJ” cover her from head to toe in fabric with only a space for her eyes to peek out.

Lord knows that women in this country never ever wear thongs, or tight jeans, or take their shoes off, or “GASP” look thru a laundry basket…oh and God Forbid they ever bend over….

People who are angry about a statue of a fictional character (that they obviously know nothing about) to the point they rant and rave for weeks obviously have larger issues in their lives to deal with….like lack of employment and/or anything better to do.

With everything that is wrong with this country…THIS is their issue? THIS?!?!?! Really? Seriously?

I can think of several issues that rank as more important than the “MJ Statue debate” like the “Taste’s Great/Less Filling” debate that has raged for decades now.

  46. Ronald Smith says:

PLEASE don’t bow down to the people that want this statue to never see the light of day. If “offended” people decide what a private company can and can’t produce, how long until a character with a backpack gets banned because there may be a gun or a bomb in that backpack ? On an action figure can’t have a hand balled up into a fist because the fist indicates that he’s likely to hit someone ?

Please do the right thing and not submit to a small percentage of the population’s narrow views of what is and isn’t acceptable.

  47. Chris says:

Has anyone pointed out that the people up in arms about this statue, based on their comments and lack of knowledge of the subject matter, neither:

    1) Read Comics, nor

    2) Collect Statues of Comic Characters, nor

    3) Know anything about these characters, nor

    4) Took the time to actually look at the piece to realize she is not “Doing Laundry” she is looking thru a basket and discovering his Secret Identity?

For the life of me I don’t understand why Marvel or Sideshow would seriously consider pressure from a group of people that are not their customers, not their demographic, and do not have the slightest bit of knowledge or interest in their products.

OMG!!! MJ is portrayed as SEXY?!?!?! well she was a lingerie model.

OMG!!! Is that a woman standing over a laundry basket….I THOUGHT THAT WAS OUTLAWED ALONG WITH FREE SPEECH…wasn’t it?

In order to boycott a product wouldn’t you have to be a consumer of it first?

  48. Gill says:

Disgusting piece of sexist garbage. This degrades women and disgraces the company producing it. The fact that it is already sold out says something very sad indeed about your customers.

  49. Bradley says:

People are trying to keep this from being made so i hear.
thats ridiculous…MAKE THIS AND SHIP IT!

  50. Kozin says:

It’s amazing to see the number of people posting here that are not normally SST customers. Mary Jane is probably one of the most attractive and sexy comic characters ever drawn. She’s not just eye candy. For those people that DON’T read Spiderman she’s the bread winner of the pair. She’s been a waitress, actress, and a computer saleswoman. For those that are spreading the feminist angle around, you’re reading way too far into this.
Sideshow and Marvel, don’t knuckle under to those that have their own agenda. Produce the statue, support your true fans!

  51. jonathan chiu says:

I have order the MJ since first minute on day one, I love this MJ statue and her posting, the statue show MJ smiling at people or spidey while washing spidey costum with a pair of fitted jean, nothing wrong with it, the only thing wrong is those people have bad imagination on MJ.

Marvel / Sideshow please get keep the line going, and do not change MJ posting, for those people who don’t like MJ post, they don’t have to buy it, it is not for eveyone.

  52. Alex says:

Please don’t change a thing or I will cancel all my pre-orders! This staue is fine there is NOTHING WRONG with it! Thank you.

  53. mojo says:

That’s hot stuff. But will probably draw some heat of other kind from feminists.
Too bad the film’s MJ isn’t that hot.

  54. bryan says:

Every female I have told this about doesn’t find it offensive at all. Like a lot of the people on here, my girlfriend and I take turns doing the laundry and dishes. We do it because it makes each others’ life easier, not because we are predetermined to do certain tasks because of the layout of our chromosomes.
Sideshow, please keep this statue alive as a sign that you won’t let people who don’t know a darn thing about comics influence things bought by those that do.

  55. QuoterGal says:

I think this little statuette is sad – and that some people like it so much is ever sadder. Sorry – those that think the objections are about her being “sexy” or “doing the occasional laundry for her husband” are, as usual, missing the point of the objections. They are also missing the point of feminism, as well…

  56. Darth Mal says:

What happened to freedom of expression?!? This is one of those things that if you don’t like it don’t buy it but don’t tell me what I can like or can’t like or how I should feel about any given topic. I’m sure all those who are having a problem with this have something in thier lives that I might take offence too, and before anyone starts about me being sexist I don’t really care for the statue myself but who am I to tell anyone else what they should think. What’s next, are bald people going to take offence to Charlie Brown or maybe call the SPCA on Jon for overfeeding Garfield. Common people don’t lose sight of the fact that this is just a sculpture of an animated charactor. SS couldn’t have asked for better advertising like they say any press is good press. Keep up the great work Sideshow!!!

  57. Heather says:

April, that’s so cliche to call anything you don’t agree with ‘un-American’. What does your nation-state have to do with it? I’m British anyway, and patriotism is for people with low-IQs.

  58. rabidrabbit says:

Love this statue, can’t wait to get it. SS don’t listen to these few people who complain about the statue. Please listen to your countless fans like me and produce this statue. SS keep on doing a good job.

  59. pspiwak@sbcglobal.net says:

Wow, this look’s real, it is beatiful, and even if I wasn’t a spidey fan I would buy this one. Adam Hughes has achieved his punctillio in terms of statue art.

  60. April says:

I read on CoolToyReview.com that there is some debate about Sideshow’s Mary Jane Comiquette. As a woman, married, and a comic fan I would like to voice my option. What is degrading about do laundry for your spouse? There are times that I do the laundry and times that my husband does. We have no problem doing that or anything else to help out. In regards to Mary Jane’s figure, this is a statue based on an artist vision. What gives the right for a person that does not appreciate this piece of art to take away not only a great statue that many will enjoy, but also condemn this artist work? I sincerely hope that Marvel & Sideshow do not submit to this unAmerican display of censorship. If a person does not like the comiquette then don’t buy it, that will leave more for us who really appreciate this creation and wish to display it with our other cherised collectibles. Thank you, April

  61. ABI says:

    Keep up the good work.

  62. cco805 says:

I honestly don’t see why people are so upset over this. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Seriously, there are worse things out there.

  63. Mike says:

I don’t see how this is sexist?

Peter Parker swings around the city all day, punching bad guys and dealing with threats with the Avengers. Mary Jane, when not acting, probably has free time waiting for her agent to call. What’s she gonna do, sit on the couch, eating chips, and tell Pete “Oh honey, I want some lasagna for dinner. Oh and you need to do a load of towels,” or is she gonna go “Hmm. I don’t wanna sit around doing nothing. Hey, I’ll do laundry and throw in Peter’s spare costume.”

Besides, this statute is no indication that Peter doesn’t stay at home on a slow Sunday afternoon when MJ is at auditions and decide to do chores. For all we know, this could be a surprise for Peter who might do all the laundry normally.

And on top of that, it looks to me like MJ is just trying to give her husband something nice to come home to. After handling bad guys all day, I’m sure Peter just wants to see his wife. So she decided to look sexy for him.

  64. JohnDoe says:

Tacky, tacky, tacky. Mary Jane is about more than thongs and doing laundry. Let’s see her looking strong and feisty, not like a 14 year old’s fantasy!

  65. Matt says:

This statue is sold out. The fans want it. I don’t see why people who aren’t fans feel the need to use the success of Spider-Man 3 to try and disappoint these fans. There is nothing wrong with this statue. Read the article on http://www.cooltoyreview.com if you disagree. I just don’t see why people need to whine about such a small thing when there are Bratz dolls at Target and rap videos on MTV. There are far worse things in the world than a comic book statue. Sideshow, you would be doing your fans and the industry a favor by putting this statue out as planned.

  66. Josh Long (jlcmsu) says:

Just wanted to say that all this crap about the Mary Jane piece being sexist is just bull. SS keep doing what you’re doing and break it off in those jerks.

  67. Takeshi Brown says:

wow, congratulations on missing the point entirely. well, if your going by the one closeup photo of the mary jane statuete, and saying that’s impossible and would be ‘back breaking to attain’…sculpting yourself to be as in top of shape as david, well I guess that’s a cake walk, huh? Adam Hughes isn’t known for ridiculous out of proportion drawings, while his woman are certainly idealized, they’re certainly not ‘distorted’.
I’ll say it once again, when it comes down to it you have your own choice; accept that men are pigs and ignore this tiny lil statuette, or you can start an uproar and maybe get them pulled from a few store shelves(of which many they’re not already available in).

by the way, I don’t know if having a huge effing head is considered ‘anatomically perfect’

  68. Jen says:

Beautiful work Sideshow and AH. I simply do not understand the furor that has been created over this piece of artwork. Don’t let the naysayers get you down, for every one person who objects there are probably 100 who love this piece. The fact that it sold out so quickly only proves that this is a fine piece of comic book art. It reminds me of some of the great works by Vargas and Elvgren and I hope that in the 21st century we will continue to be able to enjoy this pinup style without having our morals judged by the thought police. Keep up the awesome work SS and AH!!!! You have thousands of loyal fans who support you!!!

  69. brien says:

it’s obvious that these women won’t be buying this statue. the fans who ordered it aren’t b@#ching about the way it looks so why change it to please people who aren’t even sideshow customers.it’s ok not to be pc.

  70. Heather says:

Er, Takeshi, I was actually replying to specific comments *from* romantically-rejected fanboys who said “this is one lady who won’t reject me” and “sadly, real women don’t look like this”. I was just kind of embarrassed for them, to be honest.

  71. Hyde says:

Takeshi Brown, let me get this straight. You’re comparing this mass-produced comic character statue to the status of David? David. One of the greatest sculpted figures ever produced.

I’m sorry, that’s just me laughing. But here, in the spirit of education, I’ll humour you a bit.

David represents the peak of physical beauty and perfection in the males of our species. He’s not meant to be titillating, and if you find him to be so, I’d be a touch concerned. Sideshow’s Mary Jane is a representation of male fantasy. She is meant to be sexually appealing. David is anatomically near perfect and, in theory, you could attain his physique. MJ is anatomically distorted and a woman would have to literally break her back to even begin to resemble her.

  72. Takeshi Brown says:

“A real woman with a real body is so much better than this.”
that’s real nice of you to point out, and I’m sure you’ve just enlightened the minds of millions of fanboys everywhere constantly rejected by beautiful pretentious women who scoff at their pimply faces and bubbly asses. seriously people, it’s an f’ing statue, and a damn finely done one at that. nobody complained to Michelangelo about David’s c**k dangling 15 feet in the air over their heads. This is the same sort of hypocrisy people used to have about paintings from the roccoco period; it’s okay to show sexuality as long as it’s sadirs and nymphs, but heaven forbid we depict humans in a sexual manner! my god! that said, she’s not even real, it’s a damn comic book character.
sheesh. the question you have to ask yourself seriously is; is this actually hurting anybody? my spider-sense is telling me “no”.

  73. Bullseye says:

I have been amazed at the attention this fantastic piece has gotten in the media in the USA. I am a huge Adam Hughes and Sideshow fan and when they announced a line of AH Marvel comiquettes I could not have been happier. The first two pieces have been pure ā€œCheesecakeā€ and I love it. I am all for free speech and the right to opinions, this is something I feel the feminists who have spoken out against this piece do not share the right to an opposing view to theirs. They do not value yours or mine opinion on this matter, in-fact they want to preach from the pulpit and tell us how bold we are to want this stuff. I have a fiancĆ©e, I have a mother and I have four sisters. I love them and treat them with respect, as we all should with our female friends, mothers and wives. To say that this is degrading to women is IMO nonsense. I hope Sideshow stands firm on this piece and releases it as was advertised. I also hope they realise they have more fans who want this piece than they have detractors who have no

  74. Komiyan says:

Hey wow, great! I was hoping there’d be a model that would really epitomise how people see women as objects, and here it is! Thanks Sideshow!

  75. Heather says:

The doll is ridiculous. MJ is so much more than she’s depicted here. And people like Ghost and Mike K saying things like “this is one woman that won’t reject me”, and “sadly, real women don’t look like comic book drawings” — I’m embarrassed for you. A real woman with a real body is so much better than this.

  76. Lord of the Polystone says:

Ok, I want to start a petition against all statues of superheroes because they are degrading to men. They all look overly muscled and tough, and not all men are like that!! They are just based on a stereotype and it HAS TO STOP!

C’mon people, what a load of bs about this statue. Want to ban all posters of beautiful women too? And all adverts showing women in a revealing way? And magazines showing women like this? It’s only a freaking statue, for crying out loud. There are worse things to worry about, that’s my opinion!

  77. Ben says:

Personally I don’t like it, I think it’s rather tragic if people find it sexy as it is not REAL or even based on a real person.
However if other people want it- than whatever I’m sure you’ll enjoy your purchase and be the envy of your friend.
Being a feminist- not that being a feminist is a bad thing, I don’t get why folk are using it as an insult- has nothing to do with disliking this thing.
Given that Mary Jane is so strong in the films I feel let down that she is shown like that, I’d rather see her learning a script or something.

  78. morgan says:

    Yes

  79. Anonymous says:

for heaven’s sake it’s a piece of PLASTIC. stop drooling over it and get a life.

  80. Anonymous says:

Unacceptable for kids…who are you marleting to?

  81. Jeff S. says:

All this free publicity the crazies are giving this statue is gonna make Sideshow a fortune. That being said, how ’bout a smaller, cheaper version in the inevitable future production runs?

  82. bollo says:

    Looks pretty whorish to me

  83. Anonymous says:

ANYONE’S inability to even have a sense of humor over the Sideshow/Hughes statue is ASTOUNDING! It’s painfully obvious that all of you are missing the point of this playful, fun piece of art.

    1. MJ has been everything from a stage Actress to a Lingerie model in the comics. You obviously don’t or haven’t read Spider-Man in the past 20 years or you’d know this.

    2. She’s not HAND WASHING the Spidey suit. She’s finding it in a Laundry basket.

    3. If you’re upset she’s not portraying MJ like Dunst in the movies… then you obviously have no idea who the MJ character really is. She’s a supermodel, not some whiny waive thin tone deaf little girl. She’s supposed to be stacked.

Now I may be wrong, but ANYONE who complains about this piece obvious does NOT read Superhero comics. If you did, I’d consider you a hypocrite. I enjoy the Indie stuff (SiP and Lenore) but without Spider-man, X-Men and other comics, they wouldn’t exist. Do you think Terry Moore is offended by this piece? I HIGHLY doubt it!

  84. Case says:

Just got Emma today!!! WHAT A GREAT STATUE!!!! I CAN”T WAIT TO GET MJ!!!!!

  85. Shropt says:

God bless Adam Hughes, God bless Sideshow, and God bless America!!

  86. The ill Jedi says:

This piece is gorgeous. I happen to think that it is a great representation of her character and really captures her beauty, confidence and attitude. Sideshow & AH! have boht done a great job in producing a beautiful statue!

  87. jeff says:

This is crazy. There is nothing wrong with this statue, it’s Comic ART for Heaven’s sake!!!! Sideshow… don’t change your ways!

For if they don’t like it they don’t have to buy it!!! Enough said!! If you crazies don’t like it.. don’t look at it!!!

  88. Radagaster says:

Just wanted to chime in that cooler heads will prevail. I bought this piece because of Adam’s great artform, and the fact that it’s coupled with the Marvel theme. Some people need to just step back and see the whole thing instead of nitpicking on one aspect. Sideshow and Adam rocks. And thanks to Marvel for allowing this line of artwork to be released.

  89. Patrick says:

This is hott!!! I just saw the dateline show and they said that some people are pissed that this is being made!! The HELL with them!! This is a awsome piece I can’t wait to get it.

  90. wofford29 says:

Beautiful statue based on beautiful ART. I repeat…
ART…ART…ART…ART…ART…ART…ART. I think I’m going to go start a picket at the statue of David because it’s offensive. Get serious people.

  91. Tony says:

I also hope Sideshow won’t cave for all this coverage the artwork is getting. There is absolutely no reason to get worked up over something so tame in my opinion. People think they can make a big fuss over nothing feel they have the power to try to imped their point of view over the consumer’s interests.

  92. Kabukiman says:

Of all the things going on in the world, this is the one people choose to get outraged about?

As has been stated so many times already, this is a statue of a freakin’ FICTIONAL CHARACTER! If you have so much free time on your hands, stop being outraged about something so insignificant go out and try to affect real change on this world.

All of this is just wasted energy on all our parts.

  93. Phil says:

For all of you “moral” extremists who find this figurine offensive, maybe someone will cast one of Jerry Falwell just for you.

  94. pixletwin says:

When was it the business person’s job to regulate what a child does or doesn’t have access to? When did parental responsibility become the stewardship of a business. I find it alarming that this MJ statue is even an issue with folks. If it offends you and you don’t wnt your kid to buy it, then either a) don’t buy it for them or b) do your job and make sure they aren’t buying it either.

Sad state of affairs when parents are scared about something as dumb as this. Its not even “R” rated material.

    Get a life folks.

  95. lcummins says:

I don’t see anything wrong with Adam Hughes artwork, or this statue. It is simply an image of Mary Jane finding Peter’s Spidey costume in the laundry basket; there are other sketches where she is trying on the suit to see what it would be like to be Spider-man. There is nothing there to imply that she is subservient to Peter and doing his laundry. In fact, I never even thought of that angle until some misguided people brought it up. If people would just worry about the real things in life that need fixing, this would be a lot better planet to live on.

Keep up the great work Sideshow! I will continue to buy every piece in the Adam Hughes line, and fully support you, Adam and Marvel in presenting these pieces to the fans that truly enjoy them.

  96. Anders Jensen says:

Please Sideshow, don’t change anything on MJ just because a group of women has a problem with it. In this day and age, there’s allways somebody who’s got a problem with something, be it Hip-Hop, videogames, South Park ect. ect. And from what i have seen on some collector forums, there are figures out there that are more exposed then MJ. And i am putting myself on the waiting list for the exclusive version and hope i get one. And congrats to Sideshow and Adam Hughes and there two great sculpts, MJ and Emma Frost!

  97. Darren Carmall says:

I love the facial sculpt and paintjob on this. And what A fun piece, very ‘comic book’, exactly as it should be… well done for another great piece Sideshow!

  98. Jen says:

Just wanted to let you know that I love the statues you are making with Adam Hughes. The Emma Frost statue was exquisite and the Mary Jane statue really is a beautiful piece of art that most collectors would be proud to own and display. I am also a female collector and was never even remotely offended by this piece of art. I take it for what it is….a piece of art based on a comic book character…end of story. It really is very well done and I congratulate SS and Adam Hughes on two very impressive statues. I hope Sideshow and Adam Hughes have a very long working relationship together. I can’t wait to see what characters will be done next!! Bravo on a job well done!!!!

  99. gdb says:

I can’t believe the MORAL MINORITY is trying to police every aspect of life now. Mary Jane is a beautiful piece, completely in line with the beautiful comics and the artistic heritage of the medium. The only people who would have a problem with her would feel uncomfortable about the statue of David. A great piece I wish I had pre-ordered when I had the chance.

  100. wetanut says:

This is unbelievable. Misogynistic? Sexist? Over a fictional comic book character? I’m a woman and I find NOTHING offensive in this sculpt. Please…folks need to put thing in perspective. Far more important things to cry “foul” of in this world than wasting oxygen over a collectible. Sideshow — I wouldn’t let the very vocal minority dictate what your true fanbase seem to approve of.

  101. Fritz says:

Congratulations to Sideshow and Adam Hughes on another great collectible figure. Both my wife and I are looking forward to not only the first two in this line but the next offering as well. Keep up the good work!

  102. El Roranous says:

SS and Adam Hughes have made an exceptional product together. I hope the relationship continues and fully matures into even more great releases. The people that are offended by this are only furthering the success of this line by overreacting and overemphasizing it’s existence. Don’t you all realize that you have just promoted this statue and now even more people will want to own it even if it’s just because it’s controversial? Sideshow and Adam are loving the free publicity. Isn’t it funny when things backfire? LOL :)

  103. Screamingmetal says:

These PC extremists represent a small minority that are desperate for attention and subsist on BS crusades.
You never hear sexist complaints of Comicdom’s overly endowed, hyper muscular, low body fat, unrealistic depictions of men do you? So get over it.
Please Sideshow and Marvel, Don’t cave in to this radical minority’s point of view. I collect this line and although I skipped on this statue because it doesn’t represent a Superheroine which is what I prefer to collect, I hope I can collect the future additions to this wonderful line of statues and all these bored desperate people go back to hiding under their rocks.
Keep up The good work Sideshow!

  104. Carbo-fation says:

This statue is a depiction of a fictional character and should be regarded as such. I sincereley hope, that you guys (sideshow) continue to release this statue and not give any heed to the tiny 0.5% of naysayers that want this piece banned. You would do the real fans a disservice by listening to the feminist who are taking this issue way out of proportion.

  105. tes says:

people need to chill out…this thing is getting coverage in the NY Post…MJ as a comicbook charecter has almost always been portrayed as a strong woman and one of the most beautiful in the MU…as for physical features….MJ has always had juggs….lol….granted…not powergirl sized…but relatively busty….check Frank Cho’s MJ…Dodson’s…Bagely’s…McFarlene’s…Romita’s….as for the g-string…walk into any High school in Queens,NY during the spring….most girls have a lil bit of thong strings peekin out…most comicbook charecters are drawn a lil exagerated….its not like she’s Jessica Rabbit exagerated… In the movies she’s portrayed as lil more than a damsel in distress…in the comics she’s peter’s rock….check Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1 released a lil less than a month ago for proof…people need to stop overreacting over a statue…there’s a hell of a lot of stuff thats worse than this…

  106. 0028 says:

The intent is not to be degrading to women. Somebody has to do the laundry, clothes don’t wash themselves. It’s not like there’s some sort of inherent message saying women should be the ones to do laundry.

This is a great line so far and I can’t wait to see the other four releases. Keep up the good work Sideshow!

  107. darthviper107 says:

It’s a really nice statue. I can’t afford to join the line, but it really does have a lot of character. As far as being sexist goes—Women do their boyfriend’s laundry all the time, and they do it for them all the time, she’s not being forced to do it, she’s even smiling, so it shouldn’t be a topic for debate.

Very nice statue though, it’ll be interesting to see what other statues come out. Please keep it up Sideshow!

  108. dyc says:

I love this statue, Sideshow rock. :)

  109. DarkArtist81 says:

Wow, this really got out of hand… I mean, all of this fuss over a piece of art? Things like this bother me, that someone would take such an innocent statue and twist it into some symbol for Sexist comic characters and horny fanboys. It’s silly to attach so much weight to such a simple thing. I for one think it’s a wonderful statue, and even though I am not purchasing it…. And I never thought for a second that it would get this kind of reaction. Many things in this world deserve negative response… this is not one of them. Much worse in the world than a slightly suggestive (supposedly) statue.

  110. Batty says:

People should worry about more important issues instead of the representation of a comic book character. I’ve been a fan of Adam’s work for a long time…I find absolutely nothing wrong with this piece. Considering that it’s sold out would say that a lot of other people don’t find anything wrong with it either.

Sideshow continues to produce high quality work. I look forward to future pieces based on Adam Hughes’ art. And if you don’t like it, you don’t have to buy it.

  111. Anonymous says:

This is horrible! She looks like a damn whore. She needs a better belt, her ASS is hanging out.
    Where’s MJ the professional?
    This is practiaclly pornographic..

  112. Darth Loki says:

I couldn’t have said it better Rory. Sideshow, please don’t deprive your true fans of a phenomenal line of statues because a few extremists think that super heros should do their own laundry.

We all love you and know you will do the right thing.

  113. Roranous says:

I love this statue and representation of a comic book character. Please Sideshow don’t let these extremist take away quality products from true collectors. Most of these comments are from people who have no idea what this is based on and are ignorant to the subject matter.

  114. Case says:

Kat if you were a fan of comics you would see alot of women drawn in sexy poses, even the men are drawn scantly with giant musles. So don’t come here saying your a fan comics when your not.

And when has it become a crime for somebody’s spouse to clean their clothes? YOU all are telling me that you don’t clean your spouse’s cloths when the wash needs done? Give me a break, and all you women out there that find this offensive for whatever sad reason. I feel real sorry for your spouse, if you don’t get dressed up for them or try to look sexy for them. Men too, you all need to take a step outside and look around.

  115. vespagirl says:

For those who have posted this statue is sexist and degrading to women – grow up. If you aren’t a collector and simply chiming in with your 2 cents, my suggestion is to exercise your right to not look. If your world is so organized and sanitized that you have this kind of time on your hands, how nice for you. Just choose to not like it and leave it alone, especially for the collectors who really want the statue. BTW, I am a heterosexual woman and I am NOT blind. I still know how to appreciate art when I see it and I’m mature enough to not take it as a personal slam against my gender.

  116. Sean says:

I would like to THANK SS for taking the work of Adam Huges and making this statue available. Wether or not people like it is up to them but I would hope that this ruckus caused by a vocal few will not dissuade you from making more statues based on the work of Mr. Huges.

  117. devlinboy says:

ok this is becoming ridiculous.maybe she is not doing the laundry. maybe she found the spidey costume in the wash while she was searching for her sexy lady undies. i think that all of the crazy people stressing this statue need to get a life. its a comic book character, not your mother. if it was your mother….your mom would be hot

  118. Kat says:

This sculpture is incredibly offensive. As a comic book fan and as a woman, I cannot believe that these kinds of stereotypes are still being perpetuated. If you can’t see that this is sexist and misogynistic, then you’re blind.

  119. J Storm says:

I see nothing wrong with this statue. The only thing I hear thats wrong is not the pose but the fact that she’s doing peter’s laundry. If they ever picked up an issue of spiderman they would know mj was an accress and stuff. Plus, with the fact that he outted himself to the world maybe she felt bad decided to do something nice for him. But, oh no, the feminist got to take it to the ass about it & see something thats not really there.

Please Sideshow, do not back down to censorship. Produce the piece & keep doing a good job.

  120. Jeff says:

I understand that the reason people make things like this is because people buy them. I don’t blame the company; they’re just trying to make money by capitalizing on a demand. The blame is on all the horny fanboys who buy this crap. This figure is wrong because her body shape emphasizes the “female beauty = big breasts” view, while her sexy pose implies that her body exists for the pleasure of men. I realize that other people may disagree, and may argue that MJ is a strong character. The problem is, no one cares. Read the other comments. No one mentions anything about MJ’s character, it’s just “wow she’s hot.” The reason people buy it is to take pleasure at her demeaning posture and unnatural shape, which is sexist.

  121. jetiris says:

Hey you guys, MJ is NOT sexist. She is a strong woman, she is Peter’s rock and confidant, why can’t she be sexy at the same time? Her face portrays her strength even though she may look submissive in her pose. The fact that she is wearing pearls while wearing her ultra-modern outfit makes fun of that housewife stereotype. Besides it’s all just for fun in the end anyway.

  122. Lori says:

Um, no. Just a world of no.

  123. Deeze says:

I just want my dinner on the table when I get home from a hard day swinging around the city! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?

  124. E says:

    > you would find a statue of a half naked Wolverine or
    > Spider-man if there was an audience for it!
Oh, I’m certain there’s an audience for it. How do you know there’s not?

This piece is completely sexist. Period.

  125. Vigo says:

I think my wife is the only feminist that thinks this is hot. =)
She’s grounded to reality and not caught up with trivial nonsense. Love it; wish it was not sold out.

  126. DWF says:

And she’s barefoot! When shall the pregnant version be available for purchase?

  127. Mandy says:

WoW!! How great is she?! =) Just goes to show you that housewives and homemakers CAN be sexy as hell!

  128. richie says:

awsome….a bit pricey but will have to buy

  129. Lynx says:

This has got to be one of the most sexist statuettes I’ve ever seen. People want a sexy MJ statue. Fine. But does she have to be in such a subservient pose? And doing Peter’s laundry no less! Besides, Peter is a big boy and can do his OWN laundry.

  130. ThomasCrowne says:

Uh – you would find a statue of a half naked Wolverine or Spider-man if there was an audience for it! Its all about sales folks – sorry, welcome to EARTH! You can’t control how people think, no matter how much you want to try. Why don’t you be content with your own life and ideas, and stop telling people how to live theirs! Lord only knows there may be some other more important issues in the world than a polystone statue of a comic book character!

  131. Dromeda says:

You’d never find a statue like this of Wolverine or Spidey; the (male) fans would never stand for it. It’s offensive and degrading to women.

I also find it very convenient that most posts pointing that out are being “moderated”.

  132. Lauren says:

This statue is completely tasteless. What, are women only to be seen as subservient sex objects? If anyone takes that much pride in doing laundry, they have serious mental health problems.

  133. stephanie says:

    This is lame and sexist.

  134. Ray says:

    Awesome!! I abslolutely love it!!!!

I can’t wait untilit comes out so I can snag it!!!

  135. Michael says:

This statue is pretty offensive folks

  136. CCunningham says:

Oh come on – get over yourself. This isn’t from he movie btw – its a sculpture based on the work of Adam Hughes. There are much worse things in the world to worry about than the pose of a statue! Oh yea, I ordered one!

  137. amy says:

wow, a woman bent over doing her husband’s laundry with her butt, chest, and thong on display, and wearing pearls no less! Is this a subtle comment on the fact that she plays no role in the movie besides eye candy?

  138. Mike K says:

    >why isnt she this hot in the movie??

Possibly because in the movie she’s played by a real women, and real women, sadly, do not look like comic book drawings.

  139. L says:

Okay, I see why the guys want it – MJ is hot. But to be fair, when can I order Spidey on his hands and knees scrubbing Mary Jane’s apartment floor in his super tight Calvin Klein briefs?

That I would pay BIG bucks for.

  140. Becca says:

Is there going to be one of Spidey scrubbing the floor in just his briefs? Come on… give the rest of us a little something here. It’s only fair after this one.

  141. tes says:

1st statue I ever wanted was the $300 Dr.Doom on his throne one….but it was sold out…..this is only the 2nd one I ever wanted…Ive had a thing for MJ since I was 5….well it was her and Jessica Rabbit…great statue…..really captures that whole hottest thing in the MU…how did Peter get this girl? look…

so wait….thong…or g-string?…..lol…nvm…this statue is amazing..

  142. jedi_don says:

I think this series is a missed opportunity for Sideshow. Looking at the prototype, it could be based on any artist’s work. I just don’t see the unique styling of Adam Hughes coming through here. I can appriciate the difficulty of translating 2D art into a sculpture, but if you didn’t tell me that is was based on the artwork of Adam Hughes, I would have never guess that. And this is with Adam having one of the more recognizable styles in the comic book industry. I’m certain that statue will sell out as the price is right and it is lovely Mary Jane statue. But as a collectible for an Adam Hughes fan, I’ll pass.

  143. andre says:

Oh, honey! If I were only 18″ tall.

  144. Dullface says:

My tounges a wagging, I’m not w/”Robert or Angie on this one.
I am so jealous that I am not gorgeous like this comiquette, who’d definetly be getting all my boyfriends attention. I will most definetly be getting this one for me,Uh!? I mean my “boyfriend” uh yeah that’s right my boyfriend. I love the junk in the trunk that Ms.Watsons got , I wish I had a body like hers.
I’m not sharing my MJ with anyone the L word is the skinny on me & MJ.

  145. Anonymous says:

why isnt she this hot in the movie??

  146. dollface says:

Fellas! Oh, for the luv of Pope Skippy- Tongues back in your mouths and clean up that drool. (That had BETTER be drool!?). I gotta pass on this one as well- I’m strong enuf in my own femininity to concur that she’s hot, gorgeous juicy and that my guy will probably have a few private moments w/ her if I did order. I’m cool w/ all that. This time I’m w/ “Robert”,”Angie” and others who would rather have Dr.Doom or Green Goblin instead; even a female super-hero. I luv MJ but someone else can have mine. Enjoy. Matter of fact- I think she needs a tad more A to go w/ those T’s.
All together now, in harmony with “HappyBoy” please: “….that th-th- thong- thong- thong”

  147. vanderlei says:

    very beautiful!!

  148. Quetzal bird says:

Yes! Another purchase in the pipline. Keep the hotties coming, G-string action is always a bonus!

  149. Dj Mic Wilkey says:

GREAT COMIQUETTE & ALL, BUT WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE TO ORDER?

  150. Dbeurer says:

Ha ha… nice “PEARL NECKLACE”. Thats just NAUGHTY!

  151. Garrett says:

Who cares if MJ isn’t a superhero!? She is gorgeous, this comiquette is gorgeous! Bring on Ms.Betty Banner!
I had a change of heart. I want this comiquette baaaaaad!
Pass on this hot mama?! No way Bubba!

  152. Lance says:

I love the little teasing action with the exposed pink g-string. But please, get rid on that little “cleft” in her chin!

  153. Robert says:

I agree with the people that commented “easy pass.” Yes, she is a major part of the Spider-Man history, but she’s not a superhero, just an accessory piece. But, that’s all the Adam Hughes line is going to be… buxom women in suggestive poses. I’ll take my Green Goblin or Doctor Doom over this or the White Queen any day! Just biding my time until the Cap exclusive comes to my door.

  154. Eki Ibaro says:

The juicy body looks so Adam Hughes, but the face seems like a Frank Quitely one. I Hope this could be perfected.

  155. Doe says:

All of Adam’s female drawings are that way – a lot of ” T & A ” . Is MJ really that naughty or just drawn that way? I guess from the comments, the fan boys have already made up their minds!

  156. Rudy J. Vucelich says:

Aww man! Adam Hughes is just awesome!

  157. MemnochZERO says:

Again, to paraphrase Borat “I like. How much?”.
    No really, how much?
I mean what else can I say that hasn’t already been said, it’s a great 3D traslation of what I’m guessing is a very hot/cute piece of art. Much like the awesome AH Emma Frost comiquette.
Man, I really wish they’d do AH’s Zatanna (from the DC Direct poster) as a comiquette, or his Catwoman from the same series. Or for Hughes to design a Gwen Stacey or Polaris.

  158. j3h says:

HA! and she has a “pearl necklace”…nice touch

  159. straiker fett says:

I hope they make a very large number of these because there is probably going to be a very high demand for these. The face is absolutely amazing!! I will definitely be getting one of these.

  160. Venom says:
