Gotcha! – Happy April Fools’ Day!

Star Wars

Sideshow Announces New "Extras and Ancillaries" Collectibles

Star Wars Collectibles

Imagine the galaxy without the bustling residents of Cloud City hurrying about their business, or Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen's house without that familiar pitcher of blue milk. Without these common elements that are sometimes taken for granted, familiar settings become something other than themselves: in a word, unknown. At that time, the unnoticed becomes noticed, and peripheral becomes central.

In this world bursting with heroes, villains, foils and mentors, it is often the unnoticed that truly defines each distinct and palpable environment. From the wondrous art and architecture of Cloud City, to the dusty hearth of Aunt Beru, each background character and element serves to support a greater purpose to the story. These extras and ancillaries thus become central to the plot in ways that were previously unimaginable.

Star Wars Collectibles

Without the interaction between every citizen of every spaceport, from Coruscant to Mos Eisley, no matter how trivial or prosaic, this world of Jedi and Sith would be a very different place indeed. Quite often, the motivations for the main players in any epic battle arise from these commonplace occurrences and characters, which reflect the state of affairs in the galaxy, and without which the galaxy would cease to exist.

Star Wars Collectibles

The everyday tools, fixtures, furniture, and other accoutrements that populate the galaxy are equally as critical. What would the Ewoks have used to secure the brave Rebel scouts on Endor without the immediacy of their sturdy tree branches? Plus, it would have been very difficult to repair Luke Skywalker's missing hand without the aid of a well-designed hospital gurney onboard the Rebellion's Nebulon B-class medical frigate.

Star Wars Collectibles

These so-called 'secondary' creatures and objects have taken up residence throughout every corner of the galaxy. Many may seem mundane when viewed in contrast to the sheer abundance of colorful heroes and villains that populate the world, but each has taken its rightful place of distinction in the destinies of those who would shape history and bring balance to the Force.

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to announce the Extras and Ancillaries line of Star Wars 12-inch figure figures. Stay tuned to our weekly newsletter for the first glimpse of the premier character in this new category: Kal'Falnl C'ndros - coming soon!

  1. Darth Mel says:

Ever since the introduction of the Hammerhead character, I should think that this portion of the site should be reopened because I have a feeling a multitude of Cantina characters will surely be produced.

  2. Steve Jackson says:

I’d like a chocolate Aunt Beru please. Full size, if possible.

    Many thanks.

  3. joe says:

kinda had this one pegged from the start, a good idea ss, but i think you should pick on a different line next year, the star wars thing is getting a bit predictable. Maybe an announcement of a 12″ bride of frankenstien or something? keep us guessing, it’s fun anyway : )

  4. r2q5 says:

The next one should be the Cloudcity “Icecream” man with his icecream maker.
If SS does not make him then RAC should.

  5. arnold says:

    GREAT ONE!!!

  6. Quinnie says:

YOU GUYS!!! Had ME going there for a moment!
Oh well, that was the point; wasn’t it??

  7. darthverbo says:

this is GREAT! Sideshow you really April Fooled your customers this year. Good Job!
I can’t believe how many people fell for it. I’m laughing my head off reading all the quotes. A lot of people are very excited about this line! HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  8. Amanaman says:

Clever use of Boss Nass’ image. A figure of him would be pretty neat, actually!

  9. nyctoyman says:

OMG that was awesome guys! I even went so far as to look up the character you claimed you were making first, AND then I looked up the other characters that were in the survey. GOOD SHOW OLD MAN!!!! On a different note, will we ever get a 12″ John Wayne in cowboy gear? Happy April Fools!

  10. Aid says:

Blimey you guys do April Fools different in the States to here in the UK. Setting one up days before it actually happens is a bit twisted.

Ok it is funny though, LOL!!

  11. tony says:

mmmmmm…. Big chickens make me hungary, i’ll take 2

  12. HAPPYBOY says:

Muahahaha! I stand by my previous posts, if you made them they would sell. Man, took a long time to build up to this prank didn’t it? Now where the heck am I really gonna get that Aunt Beru and blue milk? :P

  13. Jennifer Rogal says:

I AM SO GULLABLE! WELL YOU REALLY GOT ME ! I SAW THE HEADING NEW CATAGORY AND IMMEDIATLY CLICKED TO SEE ALL THE NEW COOL STUFF. READYING MY CREDIT CARD FOR ANOTHER WAVE OF CHARGES! OH WELL A PENNY SAVED IS A PENNY EARNED! THANKS FOR THE LAUGH. JENNIFER

  14. dr2red says:

    I am not Amused.

  15. Josh Long (jlcmsu) says:

Nice!! Good one guys. :-) LOL

  16. Chris Beyond says:

Wow, really? NOBODY would have ever guessed that…three days ago when we all figured it out right away. Looks like somebody needs new writers. ;D

  17. sideshowbob says:

Oh, man! They’ve added Boss Nass to the line! Awesome! Surley, he’d fall under “Heroes of the Rebellion”, though.
By the way, “Whosa dat and odders?” Is a great line when meeting somebody new at a party. Or you take a sip of your drink and say, “Messa like dis. Hurrggggghghhhbbbbtth!”

  18. dollface says:

Oh! They done did it this time!
Open a can of worms why dont’cha, SS?
See what we’re already requesting if this is not a joke? You’ll now have to work around the clock to keep us all happy, not to mention get this stuff out on time. What was that? you already work around the clock? I think NOT! Add another day on to the week- make it 8 days! And get to it. That’ll learn you to make grand announcements!

  19. Kevin C says:

April Fools! I’ll take the white droid and not the golden one.

  20. Darth Mel says:

    APRIL FOOLS!!!

  21. manny mendoza says:

ITS AN APRIL FOOL’S JOKE! THEY DID THE SAME THING LAST TIME WITH THE HALF BODY DARTHMAUL!!! hahha

  22. HOS says:

I’ll take a young Aunt Beru . She was frikkin hot !!!

  23. Puay says:

Hey its unfair. We Star Wars fan got picked on two years in a roll.

  24. gary says:

WOW!!! I get two great things from Sideshow, amazingly well done figures and… A SIDESHOW!!! I don’t think there’s anywhere on the planet that I can get such great entertainment as from reading comments from the family of Sideshow customers. Hoo-wee, Bubo denegrated and now a KFC. Bubo will be excellent, but the KFC is obviously a good April Fools joke. If this is a new line, the Lars family would probably do ok. Any of the Cantina denizens though might be worth looking into. How about a 12″ Nabrum Leeds and Kabe or the Tonika Sisters? Jawas?

  25. ks says:

    April fool!!

  26. wardy says:

if this is a joke then mint but if not arent you forgetting the lotr 12 inch line just a bit?I mean come on I love star wars I remember standing in line in 1977 when I was 6 to see the original(and best)my kids have 4 of the MR force fx lightsabres but I want some rings.I just received Boromir now all I have to look forward to is Faramir whens our next preorder coming?Star Wars fans can go on forever that its been out 30 years but Lord of the Rings (the book for people that read)has been out for half a century please dont forget us.Apart from that keep up the good work because you guys are second to none bye for now WARDY.

  27. arnold says:

Interesting announcement Sideshow! I did see the movie originally in August 1977. The aliens were cool, but the SANDTROOPERS always stood out for me. At 6 years old I wished I could be one…Again, if this is for real, there could be great possibilites, but the military lines should get some more action…An Imperial Officer would be nice, a Death Star scanning crew could be sweet…no armor, just soft goods, except for a blaster, or an equioment crate. Oh yeah and SNOWTROOPERS, one armor piece and a back pack…And finally, a Luke in Full Bespin Fatigues. Sideshow is GREAT!!!

  28. Homer Simpson says:

Well anything’s possible. Any company perpared to release 3 ‘nobody’ soldiers, and a frog this early in a line, are more than capable of releasing a 10 foot chicken! Even if this is a joke on the back of the rubbish being released at the moment, Sideshow…… sort yourseleves out.

  29. Andrew says:

I hope it’s not a joke… what IS a joke are the people who desire clone troopers above original SW aliens. Just proves THEY weren’t born until the 80′s or later, and unfortunately got DUPED by Lucas’s nut-case ruination of the Star Wars ‘mood’ and ‘spirit’ in the newer films. If those clone-trooper-happy souls had been around back-in-the-day, they would be CLAMMERING for more original Star Wars aliens… like I am! Here’s my theory about all this: This is being presented as a joke, and on April 1st SS will have a good laugh at some of us for taking it seriously; But, it’s really a clever marketing experiment, to see how many of us really would by this kind of stuff. Based on our collective reaction in this thread, SS will decide whether or not they should actually market this line in the future, and which characters/items they will produce. My midiclorians told me this…

  30. Skullsplitter says:

That’s freakin Classic!!! Good one SS!!! What’s next the Rancor pooper-scooper from Jabba’s dungeon??

  31. Kim Lathrop says:

This is SO April Fool’s it’s not even funny. NOT FUNNY SIDESHOW!!!

    Just Kidding–it’s funny!

giant female chicken pilot creature…sheesh ;)

  32. Wildcard says:

I think such a line is great for a company that targets collectors and not necessarily a mass-market audience. There are many secondary and tertiary characters that deserve the Sideshow treatment. However, if this is an April Fools joke, then I would be greatly disappointed at Sideshow. Having Kal’Falnl C’ndros as the first character makes it seem like it is. In which case, such a stunt diminishes any class or goodwill Sideshow has, especially for a company that produces higher end collectibles.

  33. Eddie says:

I want a hydrospander so that I can toss it on Han Solo’s head. I also want the C3POs ring that fell off when they land in Tatooine at the begining of EIV. I also want one of the pieces of foam that were floating in the trash compactor. I also want a petal of one of the flower in Theed. I also want the power cells that Quigon gave Anakin for his racer. I also want the mushroom tree that Aayla Secura got shot after Order 66. I want the rock that Luke used to hit the gate controls to kill the Rancor. I want a chunk of ice that fell off when the Imperials attacked Echo base. I want one of the slices of the thing that Aunt Beru was dropping on the weird boiler at the homestead. I want the tool that fell on Watto’s foot on Episode 2. I want a Kamino Sabre Dart. I want a death stick. I want one of the rocks that Count Dooku dislodges from the hangar ceiling when he fought Yoda. Want the lizard that makes that annoying sound in the cave in Dagobah. I wa

  34. Weapon XIII says:

Heck yes, I can’t wait to get the toy for the slice of pear that Anakin levitates to Padme in Episode II!!!

  35. kazool says:

Relax everyone this is just like the half of Darth Maul thing. Except this one isnt even beleivable.

  36. wookiee smuggler says:

    That is one tall chicken!!!

  37. Mick says:

Now that I have that off of my chest, let’s talk about the “props” and evironments you seem to be hinting at. WOW! Please, Please, Please! I think all of us would love more of the same type of treatment you gave the Jabba throne. Imagine a breakfast nook with the painting on the ceiling that Luke, Owen and Beru had. Or Ben’s living room where Luke got his saber, or Anakin’s bedroom where we first me 3PO. The carbon freeze chamber where Leia professer her love, the balcony where Luke is clinging onto while Vader reveals his identity to his son….And maybe we’ll get an enviroment to surround our new Djarik chess set so we can pose luke learning to use the saber while Han looks on and criticizes them.

  38. Chris Beyond says:

I guess they made two tall “chicken” legs which will be all we see in the preview shot. How…exciting?

  39. Mick says:

SS, if this is not an April Fool’s joke (which by the name you chose for this “sub-line” it must be), then please be VERY careful about who you call an “Extra” or “Ancillary”. Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are FAMILY to most of us. I was 5 years old when Star Wars came out, and I have grown up referring to them as “aunt and uncle”. They are in NO way Ancillary! If this is a real sub-line, then please come up with an additional subline for people like Owen and Beru Lars, and Shmi Skywalker. Besides, to me, they ARE “Heroes” of the rebellion. Owen and Beru took Luke in and loved him and kept him protected and hidden from evil. Shmi was a single mother who lived only for her son. We’ve all been patiently waiting for the announcement of a 12″ version from SS of Shmi, Owen and Beru. Please give us these MAJOR characters and with the same loving treatment you gave your very first 12″ Star Wars figure (Luke ROTJ)!

  40. Chris Beyond says:

This is VERY OBVIOUSLY AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE. They were worried that you wouldn’t check in on Sunday since site traffic tends to be down then so the set it up here. They know tha nobody wants this character, at the very least nobody wants this character before pretty much any ONSCREEN character. So yeah, APRIL FOOLS…on March 30th. Sigh…

  41. Chris Tellez says:

This better be an April Fools joke. If not then why the hell are you wasting time on this and not adding Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers to the military line? How about a carbonite Han to go with Jabba? Where is my Snow Bunny Padme????

Is this is a joke…well done Sideshow…that’s a good one.

If not then it looks like my completionist view of the Sideshow 12″ line ends here.

  42. Mumbo says:

I love how this announcement is actually making people really mad! Hilarious!!!

  43. PEPE says:

NO!!!! I WANT DARTH MALAK, REVAN AND NIHILUS, NOT THESE BORING FIGURES

  44. Lendalf says:

HAPPY APRIL FOOL’S DAY EVERYONE!!!!!! HA!

  45. George WWaller says:

Off the StarWars theme, but I’m sure there’s a whole bunch of us “good ol country boys” who would eagerly collect Andy, Ant Bea and Opie in 1/6 with Extras and Ancillaries!! Again, prices, prices, prices!
I could probably submit a list that would be esoteric but great fun to have! Anyone for the Robot from “I, Robot” with heart-light? OK, maybe Will Smith with his robotic arm. Will says he wants his next figure to feature his “Bubble-Butt”!
For those who discard boxes, make them re-useable in diaramas. Boxes from The LOTR could be assembled into a facade of Bilbo’s house-under-the-hill, the Keep, etc.

  46. George WWaller says:

Bring it on! Sounds as it is the answer to “the world in small”, er, 1/6 scale I do hope! Please keep the PRICES down so I can aford many pieces, er, wat!
Bye-the Bye, when are we going to see “Snow and the Seven Little Men” in 1/6 with Extras and Ancillaries!!
Up the good work do keep!

  47. Jeremy S. in Rochester says:

    CZ-3
Of course this is a joke, which is kind of a bummer in that a 12″ CZ-3 (white droid) would be an exciting automatic purchase for most of us.
    .
We can probably live without the Rebellion Action Gurney and the Ewok sticks, though, so it’s good that this is a joke thing.
    .
It’s funny that Sideshow really got a couple of folks going on about it. I was believing it at first myself. The joke was a success already and it’s only March 30th! Good one!

  48. Combat2000 says:

I think it’s actually kinda cool, although I’m still upset about not seeing Greedo from the Scum and Villany line.

  49. Beowulf03809 says:

This could have some very interresting pieces, but considering the cost of these figures and the fact that we have only scratched the surface of the main characters, I really hope you don’t release too many too fast.

At least there’s a really good chance that these will be available for a long time after (I don’t expect to see “Vul Tazaene” sell out in two hours). :-)

  50. Michael says:

Aunt Beru!!!! WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!! make sure to include that woderful space age stew maker she was using!!!!! if you make her and Uncle Owen? make sure to include thier chared corpses as bonus accessories?!?!

  51. Kyle W. says:

You got me! What a great idea though to get some cool background stuff. I think the SC $50 treatment would have been a bust though for most things. I hate AFD around this place…the over killed wording should have given it away.

  52. Oboewan says:

KFC baby! Woohooo! I wonder what the rest of her looks like? She was always in my light side decks for Decipher’s SWCCG. Kitik Keed’kak’s mother……
    I’m all for the aliens!

  53. sideshowbob says:

Good April Fool’s Joke! Ha, ha, ha.
    Ha.

Actually though, a 1/6″ scale Wicket or Longray would be pretty sweet. And a Jawa is mandatory (would they fall under scum & villainy?)

Would ANYONE actually spend $60+ on an Aunt Beru or Uncle Owen figure???

  54. betty says:

Aunt Beru and Blue Milk ….nice one I was really mad LOL ! You almost had me ….April Fools! and if it’s Not ….What are you thinking?

  55. Kevin says:

Sweet! Bring on Doctor Evazan and Ponda Baba.

  56. KC says:

Not all of us have the spare time to read the Star Wars Encyclopedia. Pictures please! I’m sure these characters are exciting. I love Bubo!

  57. HAPPYBOY says:

Auntie Beru and blue milk, hmmm…o,k I’d buy it. LOL- If you make it, they will come…:D

  58. Lex says:

Do you hear what I hear? Do you hear what I hear? It’s the sound of bank accounts emptying all through out the galaxy!

  59. thecol says:

Actually i would like this line. I really want an twoonebee :-)

  60. Mooncat says:

I only hope they arent generic – clothed armatures with different heads – ie – not worth buying !

  61. Darth Mel says:

I have a bad feeling about this. I feel an April Fool’s joke coming on. If Sideshow is actually planning this line to materialize, I’ll be very surprised. What characters can come this line again, extras? What’s a Kal’Falnl C’ndros?

  62. Puay says:

I hope its not a joke. I will seriously be buying everything from this line!

  63. Thomas Carrieri says:

really, if this is serious…its what collectables are all about, not the core characters that have been covered to death, but the sideline ones that flesh out the world of Star Wars and the thing that makes it unique. And why we love it…

  64. newwavepop says:

i dont care that they play these little jokes but no matter what dumb cgaracter they say someone somewhere gets really excited then has a huge let down.
what bugs me is i dont really care about these others but CZ-3 is like my favorite figure i would have been jumping for joy to find out they were making a cz droid.
my second favorite most wanted is yarna who hasbro used in there joke last year, pick on someone else.

  65. Aidy says:

Hmmmm, I think there are far too many other characters to do from the main lines before these, but Sideshow try and cater for everyone again. :)

  66. RooJay says:

I hope it’s not an April Fool’s joke – I totally want the Sideshow ‘Blue Milk’ and I wouldn’t mind Aunt Beru’s food processor thingie in 6th scale either!

  67. plasticfetish says:

Great!!! Will Kal’Falnl C’ndros be an “inclusive” or “exclusive” figure, and will she come with an egg, or will that be for sale as part of an expansion pack?

Thanks guys! Keep up the great work!

  68. Dawn says:

Buk buk buk buk buk Bakaaaaaaaaaaaak.

  69. Clayton says:

Even if this were true. We still need three to five more Sith Lords, not chicken legs.

  70. Kyle Hickman says:

I’d love to see Sly Moore made in in 1/6th scale, as well as some senators and such. We could go with some more of Jabba’s denizens, but they probably fall under the “Scum and Villainy” line.

  71. Outlander says:

If I may nitpick, “sheer abundance of colorful heroes and villains that abound” is a tautology.

  72. Randy says:

so were bubo and the dejarik table just to help set up a joke?

  73. stad says:

Yeah, this is probably just an April Fool’s. I mean, Kal’Falnl C’ndros is just KFC!! Finger licking good!

  74. Steven S. says:

    Really?

  75. David says:

The character Sideshow purports to be the 1st in their Extras and Ancillaries line is a Star Wars character who is a freelance pilot that looks like an ostrich. Notice the 2 dark verticle legs in the foreground of picture with Luke and Obi Wan showing her legs in the foreground. She also appeared in The Premiere Limited Customizable Card Game introduced in 95 and in the RPG game Secrets of the Sisar Run. I think only her legs were shown in film and illustrated in some comics. So April Fools to all you who think Sideshow will produce this character. Now on to some real news Sideshow! I want Chewie,Clones,Aayla Secura whose head doesn’t cause her to take a shelf dive like Kit Fisto. Heck, hollow the head out or something!! Let’s hope Chewbacca will tie in the Leia Luke and Han and I’d love to see you guys turn out a C-3PO that comes close to Hot Toys Robo Cop. That is a beautifully sculpted piece! happy with Sideshow’s products so far though always room for improvement.

  76. i86time says:

I’m guessing this is just a way for George Lucas to get a figure of himself in 1/6th scale.

  77. Rob says:

Has to be an early April Fools.

  78. S.Martin says:

KAL’FALNL C’NDROS IS A BIG OSTRITCH LOOKING BIRD I DONT KNOW SS I ALWAYSE SAID IF YOU GUYS MAKE ILL BE THERE WELL I GUESS IWILL BUT YOUR FIRST INTRO TO THIS LINE SHOULD OF BEEN OF SOMEONE WE ACTUALLY SEEN THE FACE OF IN THE FILMS NOT JUST ITS BONY BIRDY LEGS OH WELL AS I SAID ILL BE THERE THX SS I THINK

  79. tederick says:

THEY ARE NOT DOING A PAIR OF LEGS AS THE LEADING FIGURE IN A NEW LINE. Come on, guys, it’s 3 days till April 1. :)

  80. kittsson says:

April Fools! April Fools! April Fools!
    Thank you Sideshow! I need Kal’Falnl C’ndros!

  81. KitFisto92 says:

Great BUT How about more Sith or Militaries of Star Wars before another line! Expand on the lines you have with only 1 figure (Sith) before expanding into more lines!

  82. andre says:

So, you guys are gonna offer a pack of plastic tree branches, is that it? Oh, and the blue milk pitcher. Okay, it’s official; you guys have ‘blue milked’ the Star Wars license for all it’s worth!

  83. RtB says:

So, does this mean they’re FINALLY going to do a Royal Guard? LOL

  84. CHAP316 says:

You’ve got to be kidding me, this has got to be an April Fools Joke. These are great figures, but expensive. I am happy to spend the money on figures like Obi-Wan and Han Solo, but come on, who are any of those people on that poll? I will not spend $50+ on a Chicken-person.

Come on SideShow, tell us this is not real, I’d love to see more random figures, but random figures that were at least in the movie for more than 5 seconds.

If this is real, plan on having a building full of Chicken-people.

The sad thing is, when it comes down to it, if this is real, I’d still buy them. You got to get them all or whats the point.

  85. Sir Tristram says:

Thsi is an early april fools day joke. LFL won’t let Hasbro make these ‘extra’ characters in 4″ scale, why would they let SSC who is new to the Star Wars game make them? Hasbro (Who acquired Kenner) has been making Star Wars collectibles from the beginning and they used this joke already last summer.

  86. Jedi Marc says:

In case you guys don’t know who this is, go to Wikipedia. It’s a friggin giant chicken!!! starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kal’falnl_C’ndros

  87. Jedi Marc says:

I DON’T BELIEVE YOU!!! This is an April Fool’s Day joke–I guarantee it!

  88. Dan says:

Just keep it interesting. If you keep it to background aliens, both random and some that we all know and love, I am in. I am interested in the first selection you announced, but am less than impressed with the choices in the poll.

  89. Randy says:

wow, i don’t think i could be more underwhelmed woth this announcement, these are characters even hasbro won’t produce, are you trying to antagonize your star wars customers?

  90. dr2red says:

What I meant to say is if this is for real I want Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen.

  91. Astro666 says:

Thank you SS, for making a line that I think will have some of the most fun and interesting characters and hopefully accessories/dioramas. I can tell you now that I will be ordering every item offered in this line just like I have ordered every other fig that you have offered in the other 12 inch figure lines. Thank you again and keep up the great work.

  92. SD says:

this is not a fake. I saw some over at the wizard world.

  93. Kyle W. and my booty! says:

The white droid thing in Mos Eisley when Luke was bitchin’ about the speeder bike getting low balled? I think Obi Wan should have just kicked him in the unmentionables right there, told him who his daddy was, and asked that droid to help him instead! Then we wouldn’t have him slobberin all over the place when his daddy came clean, and he would just have stayed spineless harvesting water in the middle of nowhere. Good job SC, I love the obscure things you guys do!

  94. dr2red says:

Maybe I am not the first to say this but, is this a joke or
    some twisted April Fools gag?
If not I want Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen

  95. Dan GLass says:

    April fools!

  96. NightCreeper says:

    ugh

  97. wetanut says:

    You guys are NUTS!!!! :D

  98. Kyle W. and my booty! says:

    Who? What??
