‘Ask Sideshow’ Answers – 07/05/07
Welcome to another round of Ask Sideshow. We've pulled a new batch of questions, submitted by your fellow collectors, from our Ask Sideshow form, which we have established as another way to include the fans in the fun of collecting! If you are interested in submitting a question, please read about what questions we can and cannot answer at the bottom of this page. [Suggestions for Submitting a Question]
Your Questions Answered - 07/05/07
James H. - Will there be any change to the Art S. Buck 12-inch body in the future?
Sideshow Collectibles: We are constantly updating and modifying the Art S. Buck body, usually with small changes for specific character. There are also tall and short versions of the body, as well as a 'big boy' version of the male body (taller and beefier).
There are no plans to discontinue the use of the existing standard Art S. Buck body.
We are planning other additions to our 12-inch range, possibly including new bodies or styles. Please keep an eye on www.SideshowCollectibles.com for more news and information.
Garrett S. - I'm loving the Ralph McQuarrie concept figures being released by Hasbro - is there any chance of Sideshow releasing 12-inch figures based on the McQuarrie concepts?
Sideshow Collectibles: We're loving them too! Our design team is having fun imagining how the McQuarrie concepts might fit into our Star Wars lines in the future. You just never know - anything is possible!
Chris V. - I was just wondering if you could tell me how you guys made the lines and honeycomb on the Spider-Man and Venom costumes in your Spider-Man 3 mini busts?
Brett F. - How do the sculptors achieve the fine texture on the Spider-Man and Venom costumes? Not the webbing, but the small squares that are printed on the spandex. Is it some type of cheesecloth that is wrapped around the figure? I can't imagine someone hand sculpting thousands of tiny squares, but they look perfect!
Sideshow Collectibles: The Gore Group is a very talented team, lead by Martin Canale. They did, in fact, layer small sections of thin patterned material on the surface of the bust sculptures, as well as the diorama figures. We'll try to get a Production Blog entry written about the process, as it was a very meticulous, time-consuming, labor of love. Amazing work!
Chad B. - This may have been asked before, but I'm gonna ask again. What happens to the artist's renderings and the sketches used for creating the poses of these great collectibles, once you are done with them? Are they available to purchase or are they kept deep in the Sideshow vault under armed guard?
Sideshow Collectibles: They are definitely locked in the vault, with armed guards and more! (sharks with frickin' laser beams, maybe?) Some actually get framed and displayed around the Sideshow offices, but most are archived for posterity.
Gordon M. - I have enjoyed purchasing and receiving the two 12-inch John Wayne figures that you have released to date. Can you tell me if there are any others in production, and if so, when they may be available for pre-order?
Sideshow Collectibles: This question was probably asked prior to the announcement of our new John Wayne as a Cavalry Officer 12-inch figure. We do have other John Wayne figures in development, so stay tuned to www.SideshowCollectibles.com and our weekly e-newsletter for announcements!
Thank you all for submitting such intriguing questions. Keep watching our Production Blog and listening to our Podcasts as we continue to answer more Ask Sideshow questions in the future!
Suggestions for Submitting a Question
Do you have a question for our Production Team? [Ask Sideshow!]
Please Note: If you would like to submit a question using the form, please remember that Ask Sideshow should NOT be used as a way to solicit for a job, contact Customer Service, ask about a shipping date, or register a complaint. Most of those questions, comments, and solicitations can be most efficiently sent to us by filling out our online Customer Service Request Form.
Also, a fair warning: Questions that ask, "Will you be doing/Why don't you do [insert license or character name]?" will probably never be answered. We're happy to drop hints when we can, but we cannot answer any direct questions about what we're planning in the future for a variety of reasons, which include (but are not limited to) licensing, production, artistic contracts, and ever-changing schedules and projected release dates. Please feel free to use the form for all these sorts of questions or quasi-suggestions, BUT don't be offended when we don't answer to your full satisfaction... or don't answer at all - it's not personal, we promise!

I would love to see Art S.Buck Body representation of the little people, then only can we have some Jawas, Kid Anakin and his friends, maybe a couple of Ewoks.
that art s buck body is getting used far too much, you need all-new bodies for your star wars and LOTR figures
also the hands come off waaaayyy too easy, try using something like the medicom trooper’s peg
