Joe LicenseThousand Oaks, California (February, 2008) - A leader in the manufacturing of licensed and proprietary high-end product, Sideshow Collectibles has signed an agreement with Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), through its licensing division HPG, to create a new line of 12-inch figures based on characters from the 'G.I. JOE VS. COBRA' Universe. G.I. JOE has been one of Hasbro's core brands for over forty years. Hasbro recently celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the 'G.I. JOE VS. COBRA' Universe, which introduced characters such as Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander. A live-action G.I. JOE movie is currently in pre-production and slated for release in 2009, helmed by blockbuster filmmaker Stephen Sommers, director and writer of the The Mummy franchise.

"This is a golden era for G.I. JOE, and Sideshow is proud to share in the excitement around the 25th Anniversary of 'G.I. JOE VS. COBRA' and the coming film," said Sideshow Collectibles' President and CEO Greg Anzalone. "Collectors can look forward to an incredible line from Sideshow - it's really a line created by fans for fans - very detailed and utilizing the best modern production techniques, and heavily inspired by the classic Real American Hero era designs. It's a fresh approach to G.I. JOE, which will appeal to fans of the 'G.I. JOE VS. COBRA' Universe and collectors with a passion for military inspired products. The timing simply could not be any better."

The combined news of the upcoming feature film and Hasbro's reintroduction of the 'G.I. JOE VS. COBRA' characters with the 25th Anniversary line has added momentum to the G.I. JOE brand, and set the stage for Sideshow Collectibles. Sideshow's line of G.I. JOE 12-inch figures will offer highly detailed, mixed-medium versions of fan favorite heroic G.I. JOE and villainous Cobra characters. The figures are expected to release beginning in 3rd Quarter 2008.

  1. Joe says:

Can we have a Cobra Viper in the mix?

  2. Lethal440 says:

I realize HASBRO gets a chunk of $$ for licensing but $119?!? I’m confident SS can manage an impressive line of joe’s for the original forecast…$79! Make accessories optional!

  3. Damon says:

Shame nobody is looking forward to a 12″ Roadblock….who could NOT want a 50cal toting Roadblock?? I know I know Snake Eyes is the ‘man’ but he’s not the only guy on the team but thats just my opinion any way I’d prefer a classic 80’s style Storm Shadow THAT is something I’d pay $120 for Snakes is overrated anyway

  4. Tazmash says:

Hope they use the white camo version when they do Storm Shadow.

  5. kellystu says:

I have two questions: What is under the hood as it does not look removable, and does he have the arashikage hexagram on his arm?

  6. David West says:

    I have two complaints here:
1 - I did not receive any notification about this preorder, but that’s okay, because
2 - I really can’t justify the price. I was more excited about GI Joe than any other property Sideshow has, but I just won’t spend that on a 12″ figure. I hate it, but you guys lost me on these.

  7. FretMunky says:

Snagging this one fo shizzle~! Storm Shadow , Firefly , Jinx , Snow Serpent , Dark Ninja Master (from Sigma 6) next please. Oh,and 12″ KISS? As long as they have real hair..and you make an Eric Carr “Fox” … I say Bring it on !! Because I don’t drive an SVU =)

  8. steve says:

Come on $120 for a 12″ figure.. It looks good an everything but The prices on these guys keeps going up and up. I thought the original price talked about was around $80-90. That’s what I would have paid for this.

  9. Justin Duchat says:

How about the original Snake Eyes with the goggles, instead of the visor? Or make it Interchangeable? The original looked much better.

  10. joe joe says:

I want shipwreck to be all original , corny suit in all ! Wheres polly ?

  11. tony says:

THIS IS CRAZY LETS AT LEAST GET A PEEK OF THESE JOES.HEY IS THERE ANY TRUTH TO A RUMOR I HEARD 12INC.
FULLY ARTICULATED KISS FIGURES BY SIDESHOW? SOUNDED GREAT HOPE THERE IS TRUTH TO IT.

  12. SDZ28 says:

No Gung Ho, no care. Any line that fails to have Gung Ho with his absurdly large EGA tattoo on his chest is made of pure fail.

  13. Michael (not other michael) says:

brian, i totally agree…i dont know what the other michael is talking about..but if prices go higher than whats the point of buying uneccessary items..when i go to stores or online websites, i think to myself is this really worth 2 tanks of gas..most of the time it isn worth it..

  14. brian says:

michael, what kind of comment was that? if gas prices keep going up, people will not be able to buy these unnecessary things…gas will start breaking people.we need gas to travel and get work….GI Joes are just a luxury and not needed to survive..

  15. michael says:

$80 is a bargain. Why would rising gas prices affect your “not buying” these? It’s not logical. So, when $80 was two tanks of gas, it was okay, but now that it’s equal to one tank of gas, the figure costs too much?

  16. chris says:

any news on these?!?!?!?!? the wait is becoming as annoying as hitting multiple stores and not finding any of the 25th Joe action figures.

  17. Lin says:

As much as I would love to have the entire collection, I might have to pass. $79+ for these are outrageously high. Especially since I’m spending that much to fill up my gas tank right now.

  18. Breeze says:

    COOOOOOOOOBRAAAA! (COOOOOOOBRAAA!!)

It’s all about Serpentor, damnit and what about a Cobra Crimson Gaurd with removable helmet (To reveal a Fred head sculpt). Damn, too bad they’re only going to make the same been there done that a thousand times characters. The Cobra La race characters would be stellar as kcuf in a 12″ Line.

  19. Lethal440 says:

Scarlet & Baroness…please give us what hasbro’s neglected!!

  20. Revy says:

I hope they make snake eyes and storm shadow the most realistic looking 12″ Figures in the 12′ inch Figure universe. Also baraness and Scarlett must have the most eye catch realism.

  21. spazzy says:

anything new on this announcement would be nice. I think the die hard fans have waited enough. We can be just as impatient as the SW fans too.

  22. Michael says:

This has to be the coolest thing to happen to joe in a long time. I just hope they make the Crimson Guard and the Cobra Pit Viper.

  23. EVILFACE says:

Another Newsletter and still No Joe??

  24. Frankie says:

Very interesting that Sideshow would make 12″ figures based on…12″ figures. Bring on Cobra Commander (silver mask, please!)

  25. Anonymous says:

wow i am so going to have to save up to get these toys

  26. kellystu says:

It would be nice if you folks at Sideshow could at least give us a teaser photo, official first release list, or something. This is the first time Toy Fair has passed and I have more anxiety about an upcoming release than before. This is going to be a home run move for you guys but with an August street date and us being in the middle of March already, we have all been waiting patiently for anything…hello, is anyone listening…I guess i will go back to the PIT and wait patiently, I still have my 25th anniversary collection to keep me busy.

  27. Colossus says:

When’s the wait over? I’m dying to see just a peek of one of the figures so I can cast judgment. I need a looksee before I take out a home equity loan to collect ‘em all. Besides, “knowing is half the battle”.

  28. Shane C says:

This will be another home run for Sideshow. Can’t wait for the Zartan, Firefly & Snake Eyes figures!!!

  29. Spazzy says:

Hopefully we will finally see something in tonights newsletter. The wait is just too dang long.

  30. kellystu says:

You know if Hasbro’s Snake Eyes 12″ figure from the 90’s had the Arashikage Hexagram on it’s forearm, then this one will most certainly.

  31. notto says:

    cobra rules

  32. notto says:

    cobra!!!!!!

  33. Chris says:

Snake Eyes’ sleeve must be able to move to reveal the Arashikage hexgram tattoo.

  34. Efrain Hernandez says:

Nice very nice. I cant wait to see the final product of my favorite characters. Besides the main characters how many other’s will follow? It will interesting to see.

  35. Paul says:

Snake Eyes with Wolf Timber and Storm Shadow!
    Thanks

  36. Felix says:

Love the video Sideshow, the products look excellent, my question is:

    Where’s Stalker?

Other than that, you’ve got the main Joe’s made.

Of course feel free to throw in Dusty, Alpine, Bazooka, & make Shipwreck a SEAL.

And for COBRAs I just want Destro, Zartan & COBRA Viper.

    Thanks!

  37. Tim says:

    Two words, Snake Eyes

  38. kellystu says:

If you watch the trailer, you can get a pretty good idea about the figures they are probably going to make initially…Beachhead, Baroness, Lady Jaye, Rock N Roll, Flint, Snake Eyes, Duke, Scarlet, Gung Ho, & possibly Hawk. I think this is awesome and i will finally have a team of guys to drive in my 21st century toys SEAL special forces jeep.

  39. Andrew says:

    I’m Kung-Fu Gripping myself…

  40. Paula Sellers says:

Thank you to the gods of toys as always you guys Rock!!!!
Now all I ask is you please please please! make a 12″ Baronness with 30+ points of articulation and rooted hair it would be the coolist thing ever!!!!!
Even if you do not make Baronness I’ll still love SideShow Toys forever

  41. Jarhead Dave says:

That’s great! I have been customizing my own 12″ Joe’s for years to get a realistic vision of the early team. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. Please keep it REALISTIC and IN CHARACTER and don’t mess with the origional formula too much.

  42. silentstrider says:

Sweet, Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

-I work 12 hours a day so sideshow can get my money.

  43. Seabee T says:

Long awaited female figures arise! Scarlet, Lady Jaye & please most of all “Baroness” with Jessica Alba’s face…LOL!

  44. Jango says:

Great new SSC. Not so great a price though. I first starting buying your stuff when you got the Star Wars license. Now after several figures and Indy I’m hooked but will have to limit my spending when they come at $80. Please make a Storm Shadow and Firefly. I would love to get more but I’m afraid I couldn’t afford them.

  45. Anonymous says:

SNAKE EYES !!! STORM SHADOW !!! BARONESS !!!!!!!!!!!! please?

  46. Shaun1162 says:

The increased price is probably due to the new body that they’re going to be sporting….Hopefully the rest of the figure is just as good!

  47. Chris says:

Anyone know yet whether or not these will be possable action figures? I don’t really want statues unless they make a few of the Premium Format figures for G.I. Joe- would love a SE (1985 version), SS (1984 Version), CC (1982 Verison with interchangeable Heads… one hood and 1 metal helmet), Destro (1983 Version), Baroness (1984 Version), Flint (1985 Verison), Lady Jaye (1985 version) and Road Block (1984 Version)

On the price $80 price tag…Star wars are $60 bucks a pop why will they be 20 bucks more?

  48. lion0ne says:

$79.99! Well I guess momma gonna have to wait for a new pair of shoes!Cuz I’m gettin’em ALL!

  49. David West says:

$79.99? Really? Are we talking die-cast weapons or just that many accesories or what? That just seems a little steep…

  50. mauro martin says:

hola amigos espero devatir el grandioso mundo gi joe

  51. mauro martin says:

hola amigos espero devatir el grandioso mundo de gi joe an te todo muchas grasias

  52. Darth Maleval says:

$79.99 STARTING!!! that means its gonna get higher…….. thank god i only want COBRA’s lol

  53. Angelus says:

All I want is Scarlett. That’s it. Please make her at some point.

  54. HAPPYBOY says:

Go Joe!! What an amazing collaboration this is destined to be. Finally we will get to see some G.I. Joe figures done up by the best in the business. Bring on the awesomeness gang, collectors reporting for duty. :)

  55. JeffDeVito says:

As a collector/fan of all eras of Joe,I am excited about the upcoming movie and the idea of SideShow doing Joe figures. The thought of them starting at $80 really throws me.Statues i’m not interested in,to me Joe means articulation and playability,at that price I wouldn’t think to have my kids play with them, which kills half the point of buying them.I would need to see some images, prototypes, mock ups something that I could say they’re worth the money.

  56. Dr Evil says:

Great news! Classic Joes are the way to go.

  57. Mike says:

$80? They had better be extra fancy for that much money. I don’t care what Sideshow paid for the license.

  58. Bucks says:

Only problem is they start at $79.99… Do you know how many G.I. Joe and Cobra characters there are. GOOOD LOOOORD!!!!

  59. Dom Florentino says:

Is it just me or is Sideshow getting far to expensive?!

  60. Sidecollector says:

Okay, I’m lost. We already know this. Show us the products!!!

  61. Spazzy says:

good news…..but didn’t we already know about this? I thought we were going to see some examples!!! If not a pre order than at least some hint glance or something!!

  62. Andy says:

I want Destro!!! Can’t wait to see the figures!!

  63. Chris says:

Awesome news esp. that they are going to be based on the classic RAH designs… are they going to be fully poseable or statues?

  64. Johhnny Blaze says:

Thanks Sideshow. This proves that you rule!!!!!!!!!

  65. Tom P. says:

VERY exciting news! Can’t wait to see these little 12 inch fellas! Bet the weapons will be awesome in detail! Wonder if we can expect some of these figures to talk? That would be mucho bueno!

  66. Seretur says:

Can’t wait for another Stephen Sommers masterpiece!

    Or not.

  67. HugeBadWolf says:

    Cool,
Only bad thing is 3rd Q, can’t wait that long!!

Does give me time to get a better paid job though, think I’m gonna need it….

  68. jeff says:

    YES YES YES Sideshow Rules!!!!!
