Product BackstoryFrodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee two unlikely Hobbit heroes drafted by the wizard Gandalf the Grey into a deadly mission to return the One Ring of Power into the black lands of Mordor and cast it into the lake of fire beneath Mount Doom.
Gathering at Rivendell, the two fall into a fellowship of nine companions, each of them sworn to give their very lives to protect the ringbearer and see him through to the end of his quest.
But the One Ring has a mind of its own. Its insidious influence works its way with men, elves and dwarves alike. Even Gandalf fears the temptations of the power it holds. Recognizing the Ring's effect on his companions and especially upon himself Frodo decides to continue the quest alone. Taking advantage of an attack by the dreaded Uruk-hai of Isengard, Frodo slips away in one of the fellowships boats but not before the ever-loyal Samwise rejoins him.
Together the two set out alone, into the East. With the help of the vile creature, Gollum, they wind their way through Emyn Muils mazes of razor-sharp rocks, navigate the secret paths through The Dead Marshes, slip past the enemys fortress of Minas Morgul, then climb the secret stairs to the pass of Cirith Ungol, where they battle and defeat the monstrous spider, Shelob. Then, at last, they enter into Mordor.
Frodos struggles with the will of the Ring have left him weakened. Yet, with the aid of Sam, he finds the strength to endure. With vast leagues of the Dark Lord's lands to cross until they reach their goal of Mount Doom, the pair must still make their way past thousands of orcs in service to Sauron. Donning suits of the foulest orc armor in an attempt to blend in, Sam and Frodo carry the One Ring right through the heart of the enemy armies.
