Product Backstory
An ancient game enjoyed throughout the galaxy, Dejarik is a holographic strategy game played atop a circular, gridded holo-tabletop. Several similar games exist under the holochess name, but Dejarik is the most widespread and popular. Eight tiny holographic characters battle each other in unique ways under the direction of two players, each striving for dominance of the board. The ancient Jedi may have been the originators of the game, using it as a training tool designed to encourage Padawans to embrace the wider picture when considering their actions. The holomonster inhabitants of a holochess board vary, but are typically drawn from the galaxy's most ferocious creatures, real, rumored or mythological. One of the most powerful pieces, the mighty Mantellian Savrip is a huge, surprisingly intelligent species native to Ord Mantell, while the club wielding Kintan strider is a neckless, muscular beast, sometimes used by Hutts to guard property. The bizarre houjix, another common holomonster that resembles a large blue and yellow lizard with an odd pair of split limbs, sports a spiked tail and is based on an animal native to the planet Kinyen. Ghhhk meantime, are also based on real creatures, lanky, green skinned animals native to the environmentally ravaged homeworld of the Bith, Clak'dor VII.
Worm-like k'lor'slugs are a widespread species, thanks to the habit of chewing their way into cargo holds where they thrive on organic cargo. They breed quickly, infesting garbage dumps and nutrient-rich swamps on hundreds of worlds. Like their real-world cousins, the holochess k'lors are mildly venomous, which assists them when defending themselves. Semi-sentient Monnok are also based on real creatures, celebrated hunters on their homeworld where they pursue prey relentlessly over the planet's vast, ashen deserts. Grimtaash conversely, is a thin, stringy-limbed holomonster based on a mythical guardian spirit that reputedly watches over the royalty of Alderaan, while ng'ok are ferocious tripedal guard-beasts bred for their aggressiveness. Both are dangerous pieces on the game board.
