Product BackstoryMedfed is an imprint that focuses on the relationship between people and medicine. Several pieces have been created under the Medfed name, and those pieces were designed to prompt individuals to examine both the origin and extent of their relationship with medicine.
Under the Medfed name, a remix of "Shadows" by the band Honeycut was created. Based on the idea that electronic music and drugs are often experienced together, Medfed incorporated a sparse narcotic feel to the track. The remix will be released in Japan in April 2008, and will be featured at HMV listening stations throughout Tokyo. A special 7" UK vinyl release that will be limited to 500 copies is also planned for release this year. Honeycut's debut album "The Day I Turned to Glass," was released on the DJ Shadow imprint Quantum in the US, and most recently their music was featured in the 2007 iMac Television campaign.
Medfed has also joined forces with one of the top designers and toy producers in the genre today, Wheaty Wheat Studios, LLC, and in early 2008 will release "Dolly." Inspired by the pantone-colored covers of Jacqueline Susann novels, and named after her most famous work "Valley of the Dolls," Dolly captures the retro feel of this classic 60's novel, where Valium was taken openly, with an updated urban sensibility. Dolly has been exhibited at both Comic Con and Vinyl Toy Network where vinyl addicts asked for "additional dosages." The package further acknowledges the association between music and pills, as well as suggests clues to each of the color's "recommended usage." But beyond that, care has been taken not to over define Dolly. She ultimately is interpreted by those that see her. Dolly may be used to treat an ache or pain... be a miracle drug... or be hope personified. She may be whatever makes you feel good. But you have to decide. Like many things in life, it all depends on how you feel that day.
