What does Disney’s purchase of the Lucasfilm properties mean for Sideshow’s future products?

Monday, November 5, 2012

As fans, we could not be any more excited about this announcement!

First off, new movies! We didn’t even dare to dream beyond the Prequel Trilogy, and now we learn of a whole new SLEW of films coming our way. The team here at Sideshow does not expect to know any official details anytime soon, but we trust that this means only good things for the franchise and the collectibles side (Plus, did we mention NEW MOVIES?)

We’d like to raise a glass of blue milk to toast The Maker, with great respect and recognition for George’s vision of an infinite universe. Long live Lucas, Disney, and Star Wars!

Been living in a wampa cave and don’t know what we’re talking about? Read the official announcement here!

  1. STARKILLER–1138 says:

I can’t begin to say how much I’m looking forward to new movies and new collectibles from them. George Lucas will be missed, alot, but I do have high hopes for this new generation of Star Wars and the collectibles we’ll see.

  2. Bulin says:

RE: PBud Kinda jumping the gun aren’t you? Disney isn’t a manufacturer and they do not own factories, they license to the best. Sure, if you are Dark Horse Comics then maybe you are a little nervous because of the Marvel connection but Disney doesn’t own a high end collectible company and they are already comfortable with Sideshow. I for one am looking forward to the future of Star Wars.

  3. Barak says:

@Pbud: I’m not sure you know this, but Sideshow holds license to Disney products (and Marvel) as well.
And in any case – who in their right mind would keep SW away from Sideshow??
SSC – rock on! Looking forward to seeing your take on these new films!!

  4. Scott Jenkins says:

Pbud: Disney bought Marvel, Sideshow is still doing Marvel statues…

  5. Pbud says:

No you cheer Sideshow. But wait when you see what Disney charges you for the licence. I know Disney has VERY big own factories and i would’nt be surprised when they don’t even extend your license.
I can’t understand why you appriciate that whole Disney disaster.

  6. Kenny Kraly Jr. says:

I’m excited for more Star Wars films can’t wait for Summer 2015 and beyond. Star Wars is awesome. Episodes 7 , 8 and 9 should be new stories. Not EU stories made into films. Start with a clean slate with the new films and don’t be constrained by the EU stories in the books and Comics. And also that means more Disney and Star Wars stuff from Sideshow Collectibles. Thank You Sideshow.

  7. Bruno says:

This news brings tears to my eyes. As Star Wars has been part of my life ever since I was a little boy, it brings me great joy to know that there will be more films for me to watch from this amazing franchise, but now to share the moment with my children. And on top of it all, even more amazing premium formats to add to my collection. So thank you Disney, thank you Lucasfilms and thank you Sideshow Collectibles.
