Ben Affleck revealed as the new Batman

As announced at Comic-Con earlier this summer, Zack Snyder is back in the director’s chair for a new DC Comics superhero blockbuster, which will place Batman and Superman together on the big screen in live action for the first time! Now the speculation has ended as to who will fill the Batsuit; it’s been announced that Ben Affleck will take on the role of Batman in the yet-to-be-named Warner Bros. film slated for July, 2015.

In the official press release, Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Director Zack Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

And of course we all remember that Ben Affleck, who recently starred in and directed 2012 best-picture winner Argo, has previous experience in the superhero realms – as Daredevil in the 2003 film from Marvel, and as 50′s Superman actor, George Reeves in 2006′s Hollywoodland.

The internet has been bashing this announcement non-stop since it came out last night. I’m not going to bash him one bit without seeing the film. I hope he will end up being great!

  • Simon Harris

The more I hear it, the funnier it sounds. They may as well just go the whole hog and have Tom Cruise play Lex Luthor.

  • Alfred Charron

The internet went crazy when Heath Ledger was announced as the Joker, so as apprehensive as I am about Ben Affleck dawning the cape and cowl, I will wait till I at least see a trailer before bashing him.

I think all of the hate from people will make him more motivated to do a great job. I think he was great in The Town and Argo – which were some of his more recent ones. I’m excited!

I have to say that Batman if my favorite character and remembering me watching The Dark Knight on opening day my mind was so blown away!, I was so happy and at the same time I was sad thinking “this is it!…, from now on is downhill” and as much as I like DK Rises it’s far from the Dark Knight masterpiece but Affleck as Batman is not downhill it’s more like falling off a cliff
I agree that on first announcements Ledger and Keaton were odd choices (at least) for such iconic characters and they end up doing a great job (good luck bringing the Joker again…) but Affleck already portrait a hero and Daredevil was awful, yes he was good in Argo but is a completely different concept, beside Argo story is so compelling that any actor playing it cool will have done a good job, hell Clooney would be great in Argo replacing Affleck and we know how Clooney performance combine with Shumacher kill the batman franchise in the 90’s…, so in a nutshell when it comes to the stupid decision of casting Affleck as Batman I can only say: “ArGo F%$& Yourself!…”

Maybe Mr. Affleck could be the Manhunter Martian or Aquaman. I do agree with Mr. Harris comments about Tom Cruise being Lex Luthor and how it makes the same sense. The guy will make a ton of dough regardless of what he does or doesn’t do as The Batman. Tell you what, for 15% of his pay, I will play Batman but it will be a very dark sided character.

If Affleck nails it, he’s the guy who played Batman. If he bombs, he’s the guy that played Batman
