Q.What does Disney’s purchase of the Lucasfilm properties mean for Sideshow’s future products?

Ask Sideshow thumb

As fans, we could not be any more excited about this announcement! First off, new movies! We didn’t even dare to dream beyond the Prequel Trilogy, and now we learn of a whole new SLEW of films coming our way. The team here at Sideshow does not expect to know any official details anytime soon, [...]

Q.I just wanted to ask if there are any plans for Sixth Scale or Premium Format Figures of The Rocketeer? How about a Ryan Gosling Drive Figure? We would also like to see a Life-Size Figure of anything Predator!! Hope to hear back from you guys.

This sort of feels like cheating because you’ve asked three very different questions here. But what the heck, here goes: 1. Our CEO has a big soft spot for The Rocketeer, and with the chance to combine Disney and Art Deco themes our design team loved working on the character. We have a finished Premium [...]

Q.Hey Sideshow, a few weeks back there was a Sideshow tweet that said you just got done seeing a few sneak peeks of future products – one of which was Disney. Disney Premium Format owners are nervous/anxious over a new announcement, or at least a time frame for some more villainous goodness. Can you provide an update for your loyal Disney customers?

Does Jack Sparrow satisfy your villainous cravings? In case you missed it, we released a Production Peek that you can check out here!

Q.Hello Sideshow! I have a question about your Jack Sparrow Premium Format Production Peek posted March 23 2012. I would like to know if you used the same intrinsic resin as seen on the Legendary Scale Figure (Obi-Wan Kenobi) or the German Paratrooper PF? Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, we’re evaluating the intrinsic resin use for many upcoming projects. It will not be used for all characters, all the time… it will be used where it can really be best utilized to enhance a likeness. At this moment, it’s uncertain whether Jack will feature the intrinsic paint style or more traditional paintwork… we’ll [...]

Q.I was wondering if you are going to make a 12 or 18″ Captain Barbosa from the Pirates movies? He was a great character in the movie, and I have been looking everywhere for him to add to my collection.

You can join the ranks of the many artists and development team members campaigning for Barbossa. He’s the next character that we want to do from POTC, even ahead of Davy Jones. We hope to set sail on Barbossa in the near future.

Q.Is the Sam Flynn Light Disc still going to be produced? We saw a short video on the production blog a while ago and nothing since. Can you let us know if it’s still coming, and when it might be available for pre-order?

We are in fact developing lots of Tron: Legacy products. Not only the Sam Flynn Light Disc set, but also a 1:4 scale Lightcycle and an as-of-yet-unannounced 1:4 scale villain too. Because the light features are so essential to Tron, we need additional time to work out all of the engineering and functionality on our [...]

Q.Are there any plans to release prop replicas from the Disney animated line? I know Premium Format Figures are the main focus, but I can’t help but hope for things like Jafar’s staff from Aladdin, or the magic lamp or flying carpet for that matter. King Triton’s trident or Ursula’s shell necklace would both be amazing as well.

Interesting ideas, but we have no plans for Disney props at the moment. We believe eFX is producing some items like this for Disney?

Q.I’m loving your animated Disney line. The Evil Queen and Hook are absolute home runs. Can you give a hint what might be next on the list? We want more!!

Some girls aren’t bad they’re just drawn that way. Other girls are always drawn to apples, juicy delicious and dangerous apples.

Q.How come we’re only seeing Premium Formats of animated villains and not heroes in the Disney line? The classic heroes (and princesses) are much bigger icons than the villains!

Sideshow started work in partnership with Disney with a focus on villains, believing that villains fit best with the existing Sideshow portfolio and customer base. We’re thrilled to receive interest in seeing more of the classic animated characters brought to life, and we are actively considering how best to accomplish just that.

Q.The Evil Queen Premium Format is absolutely stunning, but she is missing the perfect companion piece. How much longer will we have to wait for an announcement of a matching Snow White Premium Format? Also, has development work started on other big, popular classic characters, like Belle, the Beast, Ariel, Jasmine, Aladdin and Jessica Rabbit?

Fair question, but we haven’t yet begun work on any of the traditional princess or hero characters of animated fame. We will share, and discuss, your interest with our development group.

Q.Are there any plans to make any more Little Mermaid products featuring Ariel? I saw King Triton and Ursula, but Ariel would be fantastic.

We believe you’re referring to Grand Jester Studio’s fantastic bust line. We’re not aware of all their planning, but we will share your interest in Ariel with them.

Q.Since you do stuff under the Disney license… is there any chance of us seeing a 12-inch Zorro figure based on the Mask of Zorro film?

Interesting idea, but no plans at the moment.
