Sideshow assists in a Young Jedi Training Day

While students around the country eagerly await the freedom of summer vacation, Sideshow teamed up with elementary school teacher Jarrett Schack to prepare an epic Young Jedi Training Day for some of the luckiest kids in the galaxy.

An avid Star Wars fan, Schack works at a therapeutic school in New Jersey, providing special care and guidance for children with behavioral challenges. It can be tough for any teacher to capture the attention and imagination of their students, but inspired by the galaxy far, far away he found the perfect solution…

“I remember watching Star Wars with my dad for the first time when I was younger, and immediately being captivated by it,” said Schack.

“Luke’s courage and willingness to learn was something that I was able to recognize at a young age, and is also something that I thought would be good for the kids to see.”

When Sideshow discovered his plan to finish the school year with a special celebration of Star Wars themed lessons we searched our archives to deploy a fleet of Clone Troopers, Battle Droids and other stellar prizes for the young padawans.

Training Day kicked off with personalized invitations, and the school staff came decked out in “Sold Out to the Dark Side” t-shirts.

Even lunch and snacks were fit for a Jedi!

Among the festivities were outdoor lightsaber relay races, puzzles, word searches and coloring activities, as well as viewings of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and The Clone Wars.

“I wanted the kids to see the teacher-student relationship between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker,” said Schack. “Luke learns a lot from his master, and even after Obi-Wan is gone, Luke was still learning from him. That relationship is definitely something that I hope the kids took away from watching the film.”

“Everything went better than I could’ve imagined. The kids were so surprised when they got the figures and the smiles stayed on their faces for the rest of the day. Sideshow certainly helped make it a day that will be long remembered!”
