Five Bounty Hunters Who Could Give Boba Fett™ a Challenge

When you think about bounty hunters in the Star Wars™ Universe, the first guy that pops into your head is Boba Fett. And why not? He’s got the cool helmet, the awesome jet pack, and an apparent fondness for disintegrating people. And I’m not here to tell you Boba Fett isn’t cool, but when you tally up his accomplishments across the canon of film and television, there isn’t much to go on before he becomes the Sarlacc Pit’s favorite snack.

Still, Boba Fett is considered the best and most ruthless bounty hunter across a universe with no shortage of scum and villainy. So who, if any, in this plethora of hunters would stand a chance taking him on in a one on one battle to the death?
In no particular order, here are five bounty hunters that could give Boba a run for his money…

AURRA SING™

Beautiful and deadly, Aurra Sing has earned her reputation as one of the most cold-blooded killers in the universe. Willing to do just about anything if the price is right, Sing is a highly athletic and skilled fighter. Her aim with a sniper rifle is uncanny, and her customized duel pistols fire so quickly that not even a Jedi can deflect every shot.
So how would she do against Boba Fett?

Well, she trained him…

After the death of his father, Jango Fett™, Aurra Sing took young Boba under her wing, and raised him for a time. It was she that taught him how to be a bounty hunter, and showed him just how ruthless you had to be to make a buck. When Boba Fett tried to get revenge on Mace Windu for the murder of his father, it was Sing behind the scenes pulling the strings. And after that mission failed, Sing may have inadvertently taught the young Fett that the only person he could count on was himself, after she abandoned him to be captured by Plo Koon and Ahsoka Tano.
Aurra Sing has no loyalty and shows no remorse leaving the boy behind. This is par for the course as she’s only out for number one, and will kill friend or foe alike as a means to achieve her goals.

BOSSK™

A lot of people only know Bossk as “that lizard guy” from Star Wars™ Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Well, this lizard guy also has a pretty deep back story.
Bossk is a Trandoshan, a race of reptilian aliens that love to hunt and kill things. Their favorite prey? Wookiees. Yes, those same big, bad Wookiees that rip people’s arm off when angry. Trandoshans hunt them for fun and sport.

Bossk himself is an expert fighter, with immense strength, sharp teeth and claws, and a blaster rifle that doubles as a grenade launcher. He was also a part of Aurra Sing’s crew and helped mentor young Boba Fett before becoming the boy’s body guard while both were imprisoned after the failed assassination of Mace Windu™.
Since then, he and Boba have been allies and enemies, which goes to show that devotion amongst hunters only means so much when money is on the line.

IG-88™

Killer droids are nothing new in Star Wars, as anyone who fought through the Clone Wars can tell you. While many of these battle droids can come off as easy prey (“Roger, roger”), some could pose a legitimate threat to Clone Trooper and Jedi alike.

IG-88 is something different, an Assassin Droid. Deliberately programmed without a conscience, or any sense of right versus wrong, IG-88 realized his desire to kill as soon as he gained sentience. He uses his smarts to capture of his prey, and his intimidating presence generates a fear heightened by lingering memories of the Clone War’s battle droids. And with a droid’s endurance, he doesn’t get tired and he doesn’t quit.

IG-88 quickly became one of the most dreaded bounty hunters in the galaxy, second only to Boba Fett. This point of contention of course would lead to conflict, and send the two hunters on a collision course of which there can be only one outcome.

DENGAR™

Dengar doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
His track record with capturing his marks was excellent, so if you needed a bounty bagged, Dengar was your guy. He even joined up with Boba Fett and Bossk for a time, so you know the guy has to have some skill if they were willing to work with him.

So what makes him so dangerous?

Plans or outsmarting your opponent are tricks for other bounty hunters. Instead, Dengar isn’t afraid to rush head first into a battle. While this would be a fool’s errand for many, Dengar’s sheer aptitude for destruction can overpower those who aren’t expecting it.
If overwhelming them with excessive firepower isn’t enough, he is also an expert at hand to hand combat, able to subdue most opponents with brute force alone.

CAD BANE™

After the death of Jango Fett, it was obvious only Cad Bane could claim the title of Most Dangerous Bounty Hunter in the galaxy. Throughout the Clone Wars, it can be argued that no one was a bigger thorn in the side of the Jedi than Bane… and it was all in the strategy.

A master tactician, Bane always had a plan, and then a secret plan you had no idea was already in play. The only time he was captured by the Republic was when it suited his needs as part of a larger plot to free a Separatist agent. Add to this his expert fighting skills in all forms of combat and an array of stellar equipment; he always seemed to have that edge he needed to beat the Jedi. It’s no wonder Cad Bane became the go-to bounty hunter for the crime syndicates. He was even hired by Darth Sidious™ on a few occasions.

So what do you think? Is there anyone else in the Star Wars universe who could give Boba Fett a good fight?
