Nine Days of Maniacs, Monsters, and Madmen- Day 2: Jason Voorhees

Spooktacular is finally here, and what better way to celebrate this skin-crawling season than to take a look at some of the monsters that haunt your dreams and send chills down your spine.

Each day we will be diving into the realm of a different master of horror, finding what makes them tick, and how you can attempt to survive should you happen to encounter them… Sadly, those odds are not in your favor.

Our Spooktacular countdown of chaotic killers continues with an unstoppable murder machine whose only desire is to get his body count as high as possible…

Name: Jason Voorhees
Classification: Serial Killer, Undead Monster
First Appearance: Friday the 13th (1980)
Location: Crystal Lake and various other locations

ORIGINS:

Born with several deformities, Jason Voorhees was sheltered by his over-protective mother and was not allowed to attend school or interact socially in the community. However, on a day she was unable to find someone to watch her child, Jason’s mother decided to let him come to work with her at Camp Crystal Lake. While there, Jason was relentlessly bullied and eventually thrown into the lake by the other children. Being unable to swim, Jason quickly sank and was presumed drowned. His distraught mother blamed the camp’s counselors and enacted her revenge with a killing spree, which eventually led to her own death.

However, Jason was not dead, and had in fact witnessed his mother’s actions and her death. Soon he began to enact his own forms of revenge on anyone who came to Crystal Lake. This eventually caught up with him as well, and in Friday the 13th: Part 4 Jason Voorhees was killed by a well-placed machete to the face.

But that can never be the end, can it?

Two films later, Jason is resurrected by a bolt of lightning, effectively turning him into an unstoppable, undead tank of death and destruction.

POWERS:

Prior to his resurrection, Jason was an extremely strong and determined killer able to sustain wounds that would kill any normal person and still keep stalking. Post his resurrection, Jason is effectively an immortal murder monster. He is able to survive in non-survivable environments (underwater, the vacuum of space, etc.) and regenerate any damage his body takes. Not that it really matters, because he is completely numb to pain.

Also, the above average strength he exhibited while alive was increased exponentially after his resurrection to super-human levels. Lastly, he is proficient in all types of weapons and seems to have a tactical mind, able to lay traps to kill his victims in different and creative ways.

WEAKNESSES:

Weaknesses… weaknesses… Well, pre-resurrection he was technically mortal despite his ability to shrug off most damage. He’s also not very fast, but he has the uncanny ability to pop-up wherever his victims seem to be heading. Post-resurrection… Yeah, we got nothing.

Oh! He doesn’t seem to like water very much. So water? Maybe?

YOUR CHANCES OF SURVIVAL:

Are you near Jason? And you’re not dead yet? Run faster than someone else. Good luck…
