Geek Headlines – February 5th 2018

Here are today’s headlines from the world of geek news.


Lucasfilm has released the first full trailer and the first set of character posters for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The trailer shows the first looks at Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson’s new characters, as well as the younger Han Solo, Lando, and Chewbacca teaming up for the Star Wars heist film. Solo hits theaters May 25th.

A brand new television spot for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War premiered during the Super Bowl. Packed with heroes, the 30-second ad showed new looks at Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and a new shield for Captain America, courtesy of Wakandan technology.

The third movie in the Cloverfield franchise, officially titled The Cloverfield Paradox, debuted on Netflix last night after its bombshell announcement during the Super Bowl game. The first and only trailer for the film was released just four hours before The Cloverfield Paradox was made available for streaming worldwide.

A trailer for HBO’s Westworld Season 2 debuted during the Super Bowl, revealing that the sci-fi series will return on April 22nd. Director Jonathan Nolan revealed that some of the footage in the trailer was shot exclusively for the spot, and will not appear in the new season.

Dozens of commercials aired during the 52nd Super Bowl with a major focus on humor to deliver their messages.

Some of the most talked-about ads include actor David Harbour in an unconventional Tide commercial that was stain-free, and artificial intelligence laughing at humans who don’t use phone carrier Sprint. Amazon’s Alexa lost her voice and got the help of some hilarious celebrity replacements, including actor Anthony Hopkins and singer Cardi B.

Movies and television had their night out too, with new trailers for Westworld, Jurassic World, Mission Impossible, and more. The New York Giants recreated the iconic scene from Dirty Dancing in one of the surprise hits of the evening.
